Wonderful hotel at a good price.
The rooms are clean, spacious (standard and delux) and have wonderful beds. It was my 3th visit to the hotel, and as always The staff is very friendly and helpfull. If you want to escape the city, you can sit in garden.
For me also a perfect location, away from Thamel but not far from the important places of Karhmandu.

After a few hick ups at check in, which were eventually sorted out, our stay at this hotel was just great!I recommend that you pay a bit extra and take one of the rooms at the back of the hotel, but NOT Room 701 ( first on the right at the back)as this was very damp and smelt musky enough to make you sick.We had to be moved from this room and ended up staying on the top floor .The room was very large, clean and comfortable. The breakfast garden was a highlight of this wonderful hotel. It is a little piece of tranquility in the middle of a very hectic city. The hotel is well located in Thamel and has a security guard at the front gate. I would gladly stay here again.

I will say the best thing about this property is the airport service. Very easy and it works well. Give the guy that holds the sign some money, then the random guy who comes out to carry all of the bags and then the driver - because he is awesome - it works very well and your ride is only like 5 bucks.

You get what you pay for with the rooms, as expected in Kathmandu. A 20 dollar room gets you a clean bed, good sized room and the usual shower toilet sink all in the same area combo. Nothing fancy but it works. To put it bluntly, you will have no interest in spending time in these rooms with your eyes open but they are perfect for sleeping and a shower.

Speaking of shower - prepare for very consistent HOT water - at all times of the day. This is HUGE for Kathmandu and one reason I stayed here twice over the course of a few weeks in the country.

What the rooms may lack is made up for in the wonderful courtyard and restaurant. The Breakfast is awesome and the other foods are passable but better prices and some tastier options are available in Thamel. Thamel is a short 10 minute walk to the heart of the district and it is nice being on the outside of the craziness. This does not lessen the noise however. Outdoor noise is a fact of life in Kathmandu so no matter how far you think you are from the craziness, you are not far from dogs or people - the dogs sleep all day and bark all night while people will be constantly spitting at all hours. (By spitting I mean hocking - I have no clue how some people do not vomit when making the noise prior to a spit - but that is not the hotels issue of course…I thought I was prepared having been to Nepal on prior trips but I'm never prepared for those noises…anyway, there are people that live by the hotel and people spit in Nepal.)

My only complaint was that the electrical plugs in each room I had stayed in were so loose it was hard to plug in the provided fan - i.e. the plug would just fall out - not to mention trying to plug in a computer with adaptor to charge devices as these would not even consider staying in place. I was able to rig a pillow on top of the TV to hold the plug and adaptor in place - so the plugs work - just need some creative manipulation.

Other pluses are that the staff are very nice and can be very helpful. Its a busy place so there is potential to meet other travelers and all of the services offered are welcome to most travelers.

I would stay here again when returning to Kathmandu but will probably keep experimenting. Besides, they do things very well and will probably be booked on my return trip.

Just a prediction.

We stayed at hotel Ganesh Himal on two occassions while in Kathmandu, once when we first arrived to Nepal, and again after we returned for 6 nights before departing. We really enjoyed the staff, cleanliness, garden, water refills, internet, and the distance from Thamel. Would definately stay there again. However, even though the hotel is somewhat away from the "action" in terms of noise, there can still be lots to hear. We addressed this by running the fan at night to drown out any sounds (dogs barking etc).

My boyfriend and I had the pleasure if staying at the Genesh Himal hotel for 3 nights when we first arrived in Kathmandu. We were picked up at the airport and when we got to the hotel, very happy with the room.

The restaurant is amazing and clean with very friendly staff. They also have a wonderful garden in the back for dining and it is a very welcome escape from the traffic and sounds in Kathmandu.

We went trekking and to pokhara for about 2 weeks and were thrilled to come back to the Genesh Himal for 2 nights.

We also had a wonderful experience with the event planners here. They had everything organized for us and the plans we had were execute flawlessly.

5 stars for this hotel and staff. Would come back for sure!!

Stayed here total 6 nights at the begining and end of trip. Location was great, walking distance to Thamel, Monkey Temple and Durbar Marg. Big airy rooms, very clean, lovely helpful staff, excellent food, pretty garden retsurant, and great views from the beautiful rooftop area. Free airport pickup.
Do not hesitate to book this hotel. Great value for money. There is residential noise by 5 am but I loved waking up with the neighbourhood!

Room Tip: Go for delux - the top floor rooms were nice. The rooftop is just outside the door.

Stayed here for 7 nights then returned for 13 nights during an extended birding trip to the indian subcontinent. Free pick up from the airport took us through Kathmandu to Thamel. We were worried when the driver took us down what appeared to be a back street but were pleasantly surprised when we got to the hotel. It was in a quiet residential area only 5 minutes walk from the shops and other attractions. The girls at reception were very friendly and helpful, always smiling. The rooms were bright and very clean- the cleaning ladies came every day and were also very cheerful. The food was very good with a reasonably varied menu and fair prices. Internet was free as was cooled water. The garden was a pleasant place to chill and we spent quite a bit time sunbathing on the rooftop seated area which gave excellent views of the city and Himalayas beyond. Laundry service was good and cheap. Would recommend to anyone visiting Kathmandu.
