Stayed here for 7 nights then returned for 13 nights during an extended birding trip to the indian subcontinent. Free pick up from the airport took us through Kathmandu to Thamel. We were worried when the driver took us down what appeared to be a back street but were pleasantly surprised when we got to the hotel. It was in a quiet residential area only 5 minutes walk from the shops and other attractions. The girls at reception were very friendly and helpful, always smiling. The rooms were bright and very clean- the cleaning ladies came every day and were also very cheerful. The food was very good with a reasonably varied menu and fair prices. Internet was free as was cooled water. The garden was a pleasant place to chill and we spent quite a bit time sunbathing on the rooftop seated area which gave excellent views of the city and Himalayas beyond. Laundry service was good and cheap. Would recommend to anyone visiting Kathmandu.

A great location with lovely peaceful gardens about 10 min walk away from the bustle of thamel. Rooms were big clean and airy though we found that sound from the local neighbourhood carried very easily so if you want to sleep past 5am earplugs are useful. Breakfasts in the garden were excellent and great value for money and the staff are all very friendly. Top tip at this location is the little internet cafe just 30secs up the road towards thamel which had landline calls to UK for only 2NR/min and internet for just 20NR/hour - well worth a stroll from the main strip if you need to make long international calls.

the hotel is located away from Thamel by around 5mins on foot but since it's not facing the main street, noise isn't a problem.

the rooms are well-kept and toilets are clean. room service prices are also reasonable and the food they serve in-house are pretty damn good too!

Room Tip: there are 3 blocks in the hotel, of which one holds reception. if you're a terribly light sleepe...

I am writing this from room 401. On my last visit I stayed in 501. Both rooms face the courtyard, which is a lovely oasis. I've just returned from a two week trek to Mt. Kailash in Tibet and so I have quite a lot to compare this to. For central Kathmandu, this is an excellent value. Make sure to book a Deluxe room, they are much larger. Rooms are simple but there is obvious care and attention to cleanliness and comfort. You get one large towel per person, soap, toilet paper, and a nice floor fan. The food is clean and there is a larger menu than even Hotel Tibet Lazimpat. I find the Himal has better food in general than Lazimpat and the prices are excellent. The staff is family and is genuinely friendly and attentive. Because the hotel is off of the main roads down a narrow alley there is little road noise, almost no honking, and the views of Kathmandu from the rooftop at dawn are spectacular. We are able to sleep with our windows open and the breeze actually feels fresh. The other guests are largely quieter European trekkers who seem also happy to be off the beaten Thamel path. I haven't run into a single obnoxious person here! I would easily, happily stay here repeatedly.

A great place that was not pricey and was close to the hustle and bustle of Thamel. The stay was good, the constant smiles and good service made it all worth it. If you're looking at your wallet, then this is the place to stay.

Wonderful hotel, especially for the price. On a recent trip through India, Nepal, and Thailand, Hotel Ganesh Himal stood out as one of my favorite places. It is only a 5 or 10 minute walk to get to the busy central Thamel. The hotel is very nice with a beautiful lobby and nice garden restaurant. The staff were also very helpful and there was almost always someone there who spoke excellent English.

This hotel was a unespected surprise.
Once landed in Kathmandu, you feel overwhelmed by the traffic jam, the huge amount of people and pollution...it could seem a nightmare until you come to the Ganesh Himal Hotel.
We still haven't found our Shangri-la, but for sure this hotel could be a little piece of it.
The serendipity of nepali smiles and the warming nepali tea offered upon your arrival will make you feel at home, even if you are away from home.
P.S. we highly recommend the restaurant of the hotel, that serves very good tibetan and nepali food!
