“My new home away from home”
Reviewed February 11, 2014

I had the pleasure of staying at this wonderful treasure which seemed more like a home than a hotel. The property is a fantastic respite from the hustle and bustle of Thamel. There is a calming water fountain and lovely outdoor space with a large fireplace surrounded by oversized couches and covered cabanas. I also liked spending time in the cozy library/bar stocked with an extensive collection of books and films. The rooms are great. Nicely designed, clean, spacious and well appointed.

I can't say enough about how wonderful the owners are. Michelle and Pujan are so gracious and welcoming. I felt like one of the family. The service was above and beyond. Every detail was looked after. I'm definitely coming back to stay in this gem again!

This is my third visit to the Hotel Courtyard and my most memorable. It is the first time I have stayed with Michelle and Pujan for Christmas. Wow what a fantastic time I had once again.
From the time you arrive until the sad farwells, the whole experience at the Courtyard is one you must encounter.

Michelle and Pujan are constantly making changes and improvements to the hotel, without losing its charm. Sitting by the open fire in the courtyard with your new found friends and family, is something else.

Also, I cannot explain the warm feeling of sitting in the library, with a constant stream of new guests as they come and go, destined to return, It is like being in your own family lounge room, with a local twist.

If you do get the opportunity to experience Pujan's cooking, you will never forget it. Amazing.

The hospitality is second to none, especially the friendly staff, who have now become very good friends of mine.

Starting with an early morning breakfast, I hope you get a chance to Jayaram in the kitchen. He greets you with such a beautiful smile and is always there to make your day, even if you did have a "late" night, lol. If like me you don't get out of bed too early, the kitchen is open until 11am.

Of course there is the legend Sam in the bar and the unforgettable Dev on reception.

When you arrive in Kathmandu, you will be met, by one of the most careful and friendly drivers, i have ever met on my travels. He makes you feel very welcome at any hour of the day.

As for the rest of the staff I have not mentioned by name, including the ladies who clean the rooms, you are all a credit to the hotel. Nothing is ever too much trouble.

In terms of the rooms, they are a very good size. I always take a suite, but I understand all the rooms are way above what you can expect in Nepal. And of course, HOT WATER.

If you get the chance, you must go and visit, and see for yourself.

Brian

Room Tip: I love the suite. Rooms overlooking the courtyard are nice. In the Winter you need a room with AC(ho...

We stayed here at the end of our holiday in October 2013 and Michelle and Pujan was very helpful with directions and places to visit. The hotel have lots of charm and the rooms are large and very comfortable. The hotel is in a very good location and walking distance to all main attractions. We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Courtyard and would definitely recommend staying here.

We stayed here on the recommendation of a friend, it was a great decision. Michelle and Pujan were so welcoming and the staff were always helpful. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The location is great, it is in Thamel but hidden off a quiet street so it is lovely and quiet to return to after a long day. The breakfast is great too, try the banana pancakes - a good way to start the day. I would definitely recommend staying here.

We stayed here for three nights - two before heading to the mountains and one when we got back and it's very nice.

We arrived late and somewhat tired from long flight to get warm welcome and welcome drink on the house. The staff are excellent.

It's in Thamel - which is great - but is also a tiny oasis of calm within the anarchy, which is even better. Was made to feel equally welcome on our return and extra dollars spent, compared to some places, are well worth it ahead and post trekking.

After the mountains, a little luxury feels well deserved and much appreciated. (Anyway it's so cheap in tea houses you will be able to afford a night or two of it easily!)

I only write reviews about places I really like and this one passes the test easily.

I stayed at the Hotel Courtyard for three nights over Thanksgiving weekend. Michelle and her staff made me feel comfortable and very welcomed. From the moment you are arrive, you are made to feel cared for. The owners even invited everyone to share a Thanksgiving meal. The rooms are lovely, with a comfortable bed and lots of hot water for a great shower. The rooms are clean. The breakfast was a treat with a choice of cold or hot breakfast. I recommend the banana pancakes.
The hotel is well situated in the Thamel area of Kathmandu. The helpful staff made arrangements for me to take a flight to The Chitwan area and there is pick up and drop off service for the airport. I I hope to return soon! Thanks to Michelle and staff!

I had my second experience of this hotel in October The hotel is well located and cosy, especially the library where you can meet the other guests and enjoy drinks and this is a strong point of Courtyard Hotel. However I would like to give a special mention to Banu and Dev the front desk staff who were always very helpful and friendly. Thank you Banu and Dev!
