“Beautiful hotel, ideally located in the heart of Kathmandu”

We were made to feel so welcome here. We messed up our booking but they still managed to sort us out into an amazing room. Drinks flowed, conversation was great and the owners really encourage their guests to enjoy themselves and get on with everyone. They sorted us a driver for the day at a very good price and we just had a fab time. The hotel is spotless and of a very high standard. Loved it

Room Tip: Take a room looking into the courtyard. No elevators so be mindful if booking a high floor

Based on the excellent reviews we had read we looked forward to a pleasant stay at the Hotel Courtyard. The hotel is perfectly situated off a quiet side street in Thamel, service was excellent and the courtyard itself was lovely.

The hotel itself is still apparently undergoing refurbishment and the room assigned to us was NOT recently refurbished. This was particularly disappointing as much of the reason we had chosen the hotel was based on pictures of newly refurbished rooms seen on TA. The room was very spacious, but dark and dingy. Absolutely not good value at US$ 80++ per night (not at all cheap in a city like Kathmandu...). There are definitely better options in Thamel in this price range. I can personally recommend a couple of other options.

The cleanliness also left something to be desired as we had several cockroaches in our room, again something I would not necessarily expect from a hotel that commands high-end prices.

Do yourself a favour and seek out other alternatives.

I returned to Hotel Courtyard in March this year after staying there 2 years ago. Why would you stay anywhere else? The hotel is right in the Thamel district but once you turn down the driveway and through the gates, the hustle and bustle that is Kathmandu , disappears. The rooms are lovely, recently renovated and the beds are extremely comfortable. For your added convenience there is also a international powerboard, so you don't have to worry about the inconsistent sizes of power outlets in Nepal.
The owners Michelle and Pujan are wonderful. They obviously love what they do as it shows when they greet every guest as " a new friend" or organise your day trips, giving you tips on how to get the most out of your stay in Kathmandu and Nepal. The staff follow their lead and are extremely courteous and helpful.
A wonderful hotel that I can not recommend enough.

This was my second visit to Hotel Courtyard and they did not disappoint - they even got better.

The owners and staff are so welcoming and so generous with their time and ideas and help. The enjoyment of the hotel is helped by the beautifully renovated rooms and wonderful heritage architecture. The beds are luxurious and you feel like kings of the old world when you stay here. It is a welcome paradise away from the frantic streets of Thamel. The food is great - have the banana pancakes.

Do yourself a huge favour and stay here.

Room Tip: Nepal is so cheap so you can absolutely afford the best room here and it will not disappoint.

A super hotel in the heart of Thamel with easy access to shops and restaurants. The rooms are large, clean and prettily furnished and the en-suite was quite simply, wonderful, after months of variable hotel accommodation. A very warm welcome from owner Michelle, after a complimentary pick-up from the airport, and an honesty bar and a library for borrowing or swapping just added to the feeling of hospitality. Breakfast was excellent and for someone who had been away from home for a long time, the peanut butter and Marmite were so welcome! Can't recommend this hotel enough.

I arrived to the hotel in a high season in the middle of the night without a reservation. The staff advised me that the hotel was full and as I was leaving a manager walked in. He asked me of the situation and within 5 minutes found me a room. The next day they upgraded me to a junior suite for no extra charge as my previous room was definitely sold that day. They gave me a honest information about the Base camp trek I intended to do and gave me a choice to book with them of just go and find everything by myself in Lukla. I was impressed with the fact that never they pressured me to book with them. And they were really open about really cheap prices in Lukla I could find. At the end I preferred to find everything myself based on their advise.
I am a very experienced traveller and I must say I was really impressed with their kindness and honesty. It is very rarely when you see hotel management truly interested in well-being of their guests rather than immediate profit.
I recommend this hotel also for it's rooms and restaurants.

Good job!

A little piece of heaven in a chaotic city. This is one of the nicest hotels that we stayed at during our entire trip - even the Ritz could learn quite a bit from this lovely hotel. After traveling through Central Asia with few stops, we were fortunate enough to spend eight days decompressing here. For a few pictures of the boutique hotel, check out our webpage (http://kosydar.weebly.com/kathmandu-nepal-october-2012.html).

Room Tip: book well in advance - rooms often fill up six months to a year in advance
