We stayed in dophine for 3 nights. The rooms are comfortable, clean and safe. The owner, Surendra, is a very nice person, helping us in buying local mobile card, even borrowing us Nepalese rupee before we exchanged. The hotel is close to the palace museum and close to the shopping area. Really a wonderful guest house! If we come again, we will choose it again.

clean and pleasant lodging in the midst of humming thamel.
mr joshi was extremely attentive to our every needs and offered helpful advise which made our entire stay lovely. i advise the mountain flight- where you are taken along the himalayas and into the cockpit to view mt. everest (breathtaking). mr joshi will arrange a car to take you to and from the airport. top 5 on the bucket lost for sure. breakfast on the rooftop is amazing. flowers and birds surround you, sipping on fresh nepal milk tea or coffee, taking in the sounds of the city waking up. the $4 breakfast is great, and i haven't had bread like that since paris. really. i can't wait to return. i know mr joshi will have new suggestions to once again fall in love with kathmandu and it's wonderful rich experience and people. thanks!

Staying in Thamel Kathmandu can be overwhelming. Dolphin Guesthouse is just at the edge of Thamel, but within a few minutes walking all places of Thamel can be reached. Rooms are clean and bed is comfortable (well for Nepali standards). The owner Surendra Joshi is very helpful and friendly. Next time when staying in Kathmandu I'll definately stay at Dolphin Guesthouse!

This was our first trip back to Kathmandu after 30 years. It was great to find The Dolphin Guest House exactly as we expected it to be after reading the other reviews on Trip Advisor. This is a value for money Guest House. The owner is so helpful. He and his staff look after you and make everything 'possible'. All our needs were met; trekking connections, tourist spots, laundry, dining suggestions, luggage storage, general advice on appropriate tipping and gifts for drivers, guides etc. We loved staying at the Dolphin and would highly recommend it to travellers and trekkers both experienced and first-timers. The Breakfast is fantastic and the hot showers are definately an appreciated bonus after time spent trekking in tea houses. We enjoyed chatting with other guests on the rooftop garden as we ate the fresh rolls and sweet tea each morning. Thanks Dolphin Guest House for a fab trip to Kathmandu. See you next time!

Room Tip: The private bathroom is nice but the shared shower is much bigger.

Owner was so helpful and kind. We had a good time at dolphin guest houseGuest house staffs were friendly and helpful.
The room was clean with reasonable price. The location is great, at the north part of thamel area, but you don't have to walk too far. There are many restaurants around.

Electricity shortage in the evening in nepal, but dulphin guest house supplied 24hrs hot water, it was so good for the elder, especially at winter time.

What is better to feel at home when you are traveling far away from your own land? Its the case at the Dolphin Guest House! Not only travelers staying at DGH will be welcomed by one of the kindest person I've met over my Nepal trip but also will be able to stay in the best location of Kathmandu! Price is very competitive and above all beds are very descent quality, and rooms are super clean! I already stayed there 3 times this summer and next year when I'll go back to Nepal for SURE I'll stay with Surendra Joshi!
Thank you Surendra for taking good care of me... All your tips about local tourism were just perfect. See you next year!

I have traveled extensively through Asia for over ten years, and people familiar with budget guesthouses in Asia will likely be pleased with Dolphin GH. It is reasonably priced (at least when I visited in the off-season) with clean, albeit lightly faded and spartan rooms (no television or kettle), and a friendly, accommodating staff. It is on the edge of Thamel so you do not get much tourist noise except for the obnoxious guests who slam their doors, otherwise it is primarily some alley din from the various businesses and apartments that serve the locals. Dolphin has a back-up generator for the twice daily load-shedding, and a nice rooftop garden-like area where a good breakfast is served (eggs, toast, fruit. coffee/tea), and where people can go to find relief from the maelstrom (extremely oppressive dust and pollution, terrible, aggressive drivers, and omnipresent touts) of Kathmandu. I stayed for ten days in August 2012, and I believe that Dolphin deserves its high rating from TripAdvisor, provided that people take into consideration that this is a budget guesthouse in a very impoverished country, and if one expects a well-run, clean, friendly, accommodating establishment with few frills then you will likely not be disappointed. I believe that the overly-enthusiastic reviews on this site are quite misleading in regards to what you are actually getting, and the people considering Dolphin GH should have their expectations tempered accordingly, as should people who have never been to Kathmandu.
