Annapurna Guest House
Ranked #61 of 466 Kathmandu B&B and Inns
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed November 9, 2006

I have never written a review of anything before, this is the first time that I am writing anything about anything on the internet, therefore I am not sure what all things should I write here and what is relevant or irrelevant. The only reason I am writing this is because I enjoyed the services of the hotel a lot and sincerely wish that other travellers and backpackers can benefit from the same.

We have just returned from a short vacation in Kathmandu, before going there I spent a lot for time reviewing hotels and guest houses, however later decided that we can spend our money on other activities, rather than spending on an expensive hotel. On the internet I stumbled upon Annapurna Guest House, and on their website found out that the hotel was not a very expensive one.

I sent an email to Manjit Thapa asking hin the availability of the rooms and rent we had to pay. Infact we exchanged a lot of emails and he gave me some discount as well and finaly we settled for a Standard Double room for Rs. 550 (USD 10) including taxes and Airport Pickup.

I was not expecting any wonders at this cost and was expecting a very basic accomodation, however we got a warm welcome at the airport and Mr.Thapa himself came to pick us up. The guest house is located in Thamel (Central tourist district of Kathmandu), however is up a street, that makes it a lot quiter and peaceful place to stay.

They have a rooftop garden and restaurant run by Puran, he is Mr.Thapa's brother in law. He is a very nice fellow and made sure that we felt at home during our entire stay, infact evrything was managed from bike rentals to maps to Tumba (nepalese drinks) by Puran and the hotel staff.

The room was very basic in nature however very neat and clean, we had a attached bath with running hot water and a TV set. Also there was a common bath and toilet on every floor. We got the bedsheets and blankets changed on demand and room cleaned whenever we wanted.

The food cooked by Puran and his staff was awesome and infact we spent most of the time of our vacation in Puran's kitchen, where we met some of his wonderfull freinds and ate a lot of customized food (Over here one of his freinds Yuvraj, aka Yuvi, deserves a special mentioned, he is Bartender in Buddha's Bar and has excellent juggling skills and on top of that make excellent cocktails). Puran arranged a Tumba for us, which is a fabulous Nepalese drink.

Overall the family showed a lot of hospitality and freindliness. I am sure that I I ever visit Kathmandu again, I am sure that will spend a lot of time with these guys. Infact , now that I am back home for couple of days, I am still missing these guys as they made sure that we had a wonderfull time in our stay in Nepal.

I am not sure if I can put in there contact details up here or not, however on google write annapurna guest house kathmandu, and you will easily find there website.

PS : It is not possible to put my satisfaction in words as I am not a writer of any sorts, however you have to be with them to believe me. Hope you get some benefit from my review, I am also putting in some photos of the rooms.
