“Fuji is a hidden gem”
Reviewed September 29, 2012

We loved the Fuji Hotel. Because it is tucked away down a side street it is quiet, even though it is located in the heart of Thamel. The staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and there was always hot water (a blessing in Nepal). No elevator, though most people are there to trek so good workout for the legs! Lovely garden restaurant and also a rooftop garden. We stayed there in 2010 and are going back again this year.

Room Tip: If you don't like stairs, try a lower floor. Some rooms air conditioned, some not.

I really enjoyed my stay at Fuji because of the friendly and accommodating staff. That is the highlight of this hotel as well as the relative cleanliness of the rooms. The hotel has lots of nice perks like they will keep any luggage for you when you're trekking around Nepal. Thanks for the nice stay Fuji! We'll be back soon.

I only stayed for one night in this hotel, but enjoyed my stay. The hotel was very clean & the staff were very helpful, organising taxis to the airport for me & a few others in my group tour. It was in a great location, close to many shops & restaurants &, despite being in the heart of Thamel, is surprisingly peaceful. The room was very large with a comfortable bed & a nice big window. The breakfast offered was also good & the patio area with seating was very pleasant.

Travelers to Kathmandu know how noisy Thamel is for most of the day and night. Finding a quiet room with a minimum of traffic, people and dog noise is a real plus in the hectic place. I got lucky and found the Fuji Hotel. It's located on a side street in the Thamel section of Kathmandu, but only minutes away from Thamel Chowk and the Kathmandu Guest House. The Fuji, like its' name implies, caters to Japanese tourists, but warmly welcomes guests from any country. During my last 6 week visit to Nepal, I stayed at the Fuji twice for 4 and 5 days each stay. The staff were well trained in hotel management and were very attentive and accommodating. My room, while small, was always clean and had on-demand hot water------a real plus in a country where it is not unusual to have to wait 5-10 minutes for lukewarm water! The bed was comfortable and nicely accommodated my 6' 3" frame. The only problem I encountered was the bathroom mirror. Being a tall American in an Asian hotel built for Japanese tourists, I had to squat low to see my face in the mirror to shave! Not such a bad problem in a hotel with so many plusses! I would happily stay there again and again.

Room Tip: They have deluxe rooms, but I was very happy in my standard one. Also, older travelers might want a...

Each time we popped in and out of Kathmandu over a two-month period, we called the Fuji Hotel our home away from home: the staff treated us like family; we could store our extra luggage and belongings while we were away on trek; when one of us got sick, they helped us make sure we had what we needed. The room and lobby was always spotless, there was free wifi and two internet-enabled computers to use free in the lobby, there was always hot running water (a luxury in Nepal!) and enough toilet paper. And the hotel staff were the nicest people on earth. Highly recommend this little gem away from the busy and noisy main streets, tucked down a side-street.

Room Tip: The top floor rooms have access to their lovely rooftop garden patio.
