My sister Becket and I just completed a 13 night stay at Hotel Mums Home Pvt.Ltd and highly recommend staying there. Upon our arrival at the airport, Deepak (hotel employee) was waiting with my name printed on a sign. He helped us with our luggage before Becket and I piled into a clean van.
Before going to our room we ate dinner in the restaurant that was a nice alternative than having to find one that was open since it was after 9p. Mums did a good job preparing vegetables that always had a bit of a crunch to them. The Gorkha beer and red wine was good too. A good breakfast buffet consisting of fresh fruit and tossed salad, cereals, juice made with distilled water and hot items i.e. steamed vegetables, broiled tomatoes, hash browns and some mornings noodles that tasted great with the vegetables. You could also order eggs. This hotel also supplies clean water free of charge.
Our room was clean and comfy. The shower had good water pressure with plenty of hot water no matter what time of day you showered. The rooms had hard wooden floors and cable TV. The beds were new and firm so there were no concerns about bugs.
They even had a wake up service for our mountain flight to view Everest that they arranged for us. Mums provided the transportation to and from the airport. Deepak also drove us to Changu Narayan Temple and then to Bhaktapur and then back to the hotel for a price that was cheaper than taking a taxi.
The laundry service was a big plus too. We’d drop it off in the mornings and they’d deliver it to us the following morning. Furthermore, the staff was impeccable and kind who we became very fond of.
The hotel is located on a side road off Jyatha in the Thamel neighborhood. If you’re looking for the location in Lonely Planet and Rough Guide’s 2012 guide books, look for the Kantipur Temple House which is now called Hotel Friends Home, which is next door. Some of the reviews I read here said it was located on a secluded road but it’s not it’s lined with shops and security patrol.
There wasn’t a question that the staff couldn’t answer. My sister had an issue with her debit card and had to call the US. Mums assisted her so she was able to resolve the issue. The people working here are wonderful as you’ll find that most Nepali’s are.
