Stupa House is a nice place with spacious rooms, hot water, good restuarant, helpful and nice staff and rooftop. It is located near the tourist hub Thamel in a reasonable quite (in Kathmandu no place is totally quiet) area near a charming sqaure with a local feeling. We had a wonderful stay, felt very much at home and will definitely stay at Stupa House the next time we visit Kathmandu. It is the best place, I have stayed in Kathmandu - and I have stayed quite a few places. It is very good quality for the modest amount of money. And they are ready to help with everything one might need, we stored luggage while trekking and came back one day earlier without any trouble. Highly recommendable!

Room Tip: On as high a floor as possible ;-) Less noise, more privacy

Two days before we were scheduled to arrive in Nepal, I had a serious accident in Thailand and had to return home for immediate surgery. I contacted Ram from the hospital by email to apologize for my late cancellation. Not only was he very kind and understanding, he arranged to get a partial refund on flights we had booked through him. I have never met Ram in person but I have to say that my experience dealing with him was outstanding.
Honest as they come.
Thank you again Ram!

Thank heavens for Kaji, my Sherpa guide who recommended this place. I had just had a bad deal at another dodgy place in Thamel. Mr Ram S. Tamang, the owner of Stupa, was extremely helpful, letting me check in and rest, before signing in. The room was large and confortable after my arduous trek. He let me store luggage and take a quick shower after check-out time, just before my flight. Worth spending a little more to have a safe and honest service from MR Ram. Thank you again !

Room Tip: Try to get a room away from the main street for more privacy.

Our favourite place we stayed in Nepal! Ram and his family are so friendly and welcoming - they treat you as family. The rooms are comfortable and clean, even have hot showers. Everything is extremely reasonably priced, especially for the quality you receive. Be sure to try the food in the restaurant too - BEST food we had! Good sized portions too. Oh and checkout the beautiful patio up top. Nice place for a book and bottle of wine. Enjoy your visit!

After staying to several hostel throughout my travels/trek in Nepal this was the last place I stayed at. I was blown away by the standards of this place despite paying a 10USD a night for the two of us (cheap cheap!). We felt very welcomed by the family that owned this place. A pleasure to stay in this place. Girls... the toilets/showers are very clean!

Close to places that sell great local food... which could be hard to find depending on what part of Thamel you are in. In Thamel they seem to have more western food places that Nepalese...

BONUS: most places when there they have no power, there really is no power. But this place in all the rooms will always have one light that still works. Not necessary as most people own torches. But very convenient.

Room Tip: They have several levels of rooms (like 6 if I remember correctly)... if you don't like climbing...

Simply put, this is an absolute gem of a place! When we first arrived, shattered from our long haul flight, we were warmly greeted by the owner Ram and his family, and treated to a cup of delicious Masala tea.

Such wonderful service continued throughout all the time we stayed. We were always treated very hospitably, and with real courtesy and friendship by the whole family, who did everything they could to make us feel at home. Their welcoming attitude and kindness helped make our visit so enjoyable.

The hotel is also situated well, at the southern edge of Thamel, close enough to allow you to travel with relative ease to some of Kathmandu's best sights (such as Durbar Square, the Monkey Temple and Thamel itself), but far enough away from the thick of it that you don't feel overwhelmed. The rooms are spacious and well furnished.

The hotel also offers many useful services from laundry and WiFi, to organising bus tickets and tours. There is also a restaurant, serving some of the most delicious food we ate whilst in Nepal - the momos are particularly good!

All in all, we loved staying at Stupa House and would do so again!

I spent two weeks in this guesthouse and I felt like home instantly. The family who owns the guesthouse are very friendly and really make their best for you to feel good. The location is perfect, just at the beginning of the main Thamel street. You have a high rooftop from where you have a wonderful view on the city of Kathmandhu (the sunset is particularly beautiful frome there). What's more you are near every places of the Valley of Kathmandhu if you want to visit or if you want to go for a walk to Nagarkot, Dhulikel, Namo Buddha, Panauti, etc. Ram and his brother will give you all the information and the advice you need for your visits/treks.
And if you like football, you can watch all the games on the big screen of the restaurant.
