“Not too far from city”
Reviewed October 3, 2013

Built on top of a hill, it's very artistic, colourful and beautiful like most of other monasteries are. Best day to visit there is on Saturdays as the main monastery open only on Saturdays. The best time to visit there is before noon.

“Beautiful”
Reviewed October 2, 2013

Its a pleasure of eye to go and visit this place. The view from this monastry was so attractive and very relaxing. Most of the places we could not go because of the restriction but if the monks wish then their desire person can go inside the monastry. So you better have some contact before you visit or you just visit half of the place.

“Jewel in the Lotus!”
Reviewed September 18, 2013

Its on the hill top and trust me if you need a peaceful experience, then a visit to this place is worth it. IF you are travelling in a taxi then its is little longer.. Best would be if you can get a motorcycle hired and ride the whole way. Loved this Place..

“Amazing statues”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

This newly opened place lies on top of the Hillside of Kathmandu. Where has been built up amazing statues of such as Rimpoche, Buddha and other Buddhist gods. Very nice place for the view of Kathmandu as well on a clear day visitors can enjoy the fantastic view of mountains.
Well managed monasteries, different gods statues and well space of parking are other good things of this place.
people can make a day trip hike to monastery as well.

Highly recommend this place to be visited by couple or family rather than just solo.

“A hidden gem!!”
Reviewed August 24, 2013

White Monastery, or Seto Gomba is a Buddhist Monastery set atop a hill with breathtaking views of Kathmandu all around. It is a quiet serene place, with lots of very beautiful carvings and statues, but i mostly found people sitting in the shelters all around, just soaking in the view. Please note that this is open for visitors only on Saturdays. I found one video on Youtube for this place, which shows the statues and the place a little.
This place is not something we found through our research on the internet / guidebooks. It was recommended to us by our travel organizers (Yeti Travels) when we expressed our desire to visit a monastery. Apparently the road to this monastery is better than the road to Kopan monastery (which makes me shudder to think of the Kopan monastery road!)
Anyway, it was a priceless gem of a place, and am really really grateful we got here! The monastery is a steep and very very very bad road up a mountain - we saw many a car stall and just give up on the climb so if you do plan to come here, chose your medium wisely. There were of course plenty of people doing the climb to the top on foot, but as a tourist with limited time, not the best of health, and lottsa places to see, this really wasn't an option for us.
Once you reach the parking, the climb up to the top is a set of easy going stairs with lots to see in between. The monastery is on one side of the statues and one can go in there to pay your respect.
And the view all around is what really makes it all worth it. The five Buddhas at the gate overlooking the valley below, the low hanging clouds floating between the mountains, the feeling of really being on top of the world. :) very nice!
