“very happy”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 29, 2012

I am from Australia and stayed here in April 2012 with two friends, my first trip to Nepal. We stayed for about 5 nights split over two days. As said by another reviewer, the garden behind the hotel is a paradise after the trip from the airport and gives you time to recharge your batteries before heading off to Thamel which is next door. I too found the staff great and the rooms fine. Great atmosphere. I specially want to rave about how happy I was with the trekking Company - Nepal Experienced Adventure Treks- (N.E.A.T) that use this hotel as their base and who organised our three week Annapurna trek. Our guide and porters were fantastic, everything went very well and I want to go back again as soon as possible! Thanks Chandra and your team. Best holiday of my life.

We stayed in the International Guest House twice during our trip to Nepal - our first couple nights, and the last week of our stay. Overall, the hotel is pretty good, but not great. If I could give it 3 1/2 stars, that would be accurate.

The first time we stayed we had a very small room which, for the price, was adequate to meet our needs. The bathroom was pretty run down and small, the bed hard and it was LOUD. I'm talking very loud, starting at 5am. But again, for the price, it was fine for us. Good location and very nice and helpful staff. Despite what others have written, in our opinion breakfast is not good - we didn't bother eating it again after the first morning. The hotel was very helpful in setting up a cab for us to bring us to the hotel from the airport - they were waiting when we arrived with a sign, which was appreciated.

The second time we came back, we had a great experience. Since we wanted something a little nicer for a longer stay, we were able to bargain with the manager (this was off season) to get one of the suites for a good price - $30/night. This room was much bigger, with a sitting area, a big bed, a desk, large bathroom and walk in closet (clearly, not used when you're traveling in Nepal and wear the same clothes every day, but still). We were satisfied with the service and the rooms were always very well cleaned by the staff every day. We saw a few cockroaches, but of course that would happen in any hotel in Nepal.

They have internet, but it's pretty spotty and doesn't work in some rooms. For us, it was great to just be able to check email on the iPad now and again.

We also sent our laundry with the laundry "company" they use - they lost one of my shirts but then found it immediately and brought it to our room. Good service.

Overall, good stay - adequate but nothing fancy, which fit our needs just fine.

Room Tip: Both rooms we stayed in were loud. People wake up early in Nepal and you will hear them. Try to get...

My two friends and I stayed at the International Guest House for several days at the end of April, early May, 2012. It is really close to the main Thamel area, but just far enough that you don't get the vendors pestering you as soon as you exit. The garden area and roof deck are amazing and peaceful and the whole place is exquisitely decorated. The wireless was great in the garden and it was nice place to hang out and read in between site seeing. The staff was great and very helpful. Our laundry came back spotless and quick. We left our excess luggage behind in the storage while we trekked to EBC and every thing was safe. The tourist office left a little to be desired, i.e. was not that helpful and the guy pocketed 1000 rupees of the 3000 we paid to go out to Bhaktupur. It was expensive due to the bhand, but still. The breakfast was not the best, but it was free. They waste A LOT of food by requiring you to order the American bfast or Continental, even if you do ask them not to bring everything on the list. We don't need seven pieces of toast between the two of us.

Room Tip: Some of the rooms have little sitting areas out front - not really a private balcony, but a little s...

The place is walking distance from Thamel, the busy and touristic heart of KTM. The first time I was given a quite nice room at the first floor. The second time the room was not so comfortable and nice and one had to climb up to the 4th floor. The garden is a nice where to relax, the staff friendly and the owner, who is also in charge for the in-house tour bureau, is helpful. I did not try the restaurant. There is a computer room with two three PCs for the guests -though the connection fails sometimes due to the frequent power cuts.

It's just outside Thamel, which makes a HUGE difference in your ability to sleep well. Wifi and breakfast are included, and if you leave early they'll pack your breakfast for you. Also, the breakfast options are really good. There's some thing they'll make you with these massive pancakes, which are delicious. There's a lovely garden and the rooms are gorgeous, even the cheapest ones, with great views. The service isn't perfect but the staff is at least willing to treat you like an explorer and tell you how to use local transport, whereas the staff at the Kathmandu Guesthouse and other places will always recommend the most expensive option for you.

Beautiful wood-carvings everywhere. The garden is nice, and breakfast is totally decent. Location is great - just close enough to the hustle and bustle, but not right in the thick of it. Great view of the city from the rooftop. Rooms are very plain, but clean. We stayed in December, and hot water was sporadic, which was a bit of a downer. The room was pretty cold as well. Trying to convince a five year old kid to shower was a bit of an adventure. But, overall, I would recommend it.
