It was culturally interesting to see the corpse being prepared for cremation and if you have not been to Varanasi, you may well be impressed.
Otherwise, apart from some entertaining Saddhus, all of whom spoke excellent English there is nothing much there for a non-Hindu because you cannot visit the Temple.
At $10 per person plus taxi there and back it does seem to offer less value than many other places in Nepal.
And dont forget that you can visit some of the most beautiful Buddhist temples for free!

There are three different listings on Trip Advisor for the Pashupatinath Temple complex, but I chose to submit a review under this heading since the most interesting aspect for me was observing the Hindu ritual of cremation. If you spend a significant amount of time here, you are likely to witness all stages of the ritual....

This has been going on thoughout generations of Hindus, but I noticed one radical modern aspect...when one man was using his smartphone to record a video of the deceased as they set the cremation fire.

Westerners can expect to pay a relatively high fee to gain access to the complex, but it's worth the price to gain a deeper understanding of the culture.

Very interesting to see but still felt like an intruder upon people's private grief. Found the experience more natural than Varanasi. Some interesting ??? People around the place made it an experience not to be missed.

Visiting the "ghats" (cremation sites) by Pashupatinath temple is a very interesting experience. It is important for cultural understanding and fascinating to learn about Hindu believes. Most Hindus in Nepal are cremated here, provided they can reach Pashupatinath within 24 hours of death. There is a hospice nearby, which allows people to die within reach of this sacred place. Take your time visiting (and watching) this area and respect the families.

This is the reality for end of life for many Hindus. Part of our trip was cultural understanding and this was an important part.
