That is where families have the bodies of dead relatives washed at a dirty river, then burned at open air and the ashes thrown at the river afterwards. Not a good sight and a very bad smell. Hussain Said Mourad

It is nothing WOW, but it was worth to pass by and see the religious building. You cannot go in, but observe from the outside.

What an honor it was to experience this place. While we were there a cremation was taking place and a sevite was preparing for the evening Arati. The Sadhus were in place and more than willing to be photographed...prepare to pay them 100 rupees and they are very happy to let you click away.

During our sightseeing tour we were taken to the Bagmati river and really had no idea what we were about to see. We talked with many locals along the way until we came upon lots of smoke. A local man than proceeded to explain that what we were looking at was in fact a cremation. He explained the beliefs, the procession and the family involvement in such a way we were really caught in the moment. His English was faultless and the amount of knowledge given kept our attention. Whether or not you decide to use the services of a guide is a personal choice but in this case it really turned out to be of great benefit. A sad but unique place to visit that came totally unexpected.
