For a 5 * resort, the stay was not pleasant. The tap in the bathroom was not working. The toilet flush struggled to operate. The service in the restaurant was appalling. Long wait for service. Shisha overpriced and not good quality for NR 932 a shot.

Truly a lovely experience! Wonderful staff and a very relaxing respite. Only 30 minutes from downtown Kathmandu yet you feel like you are a world away nestled in the forest. Spa and forest walk are musts!

Room Tip: Rooms on the back side have a balcony with a view of the forest.

Monkeys galore and running across the property, you wis to be in nature you cant get better than this
Resort has a beautiful 18 hole golf course. The staff was extremely courteous and helpful.
The food is also good but there are better places in Nepal. The Spa was amazing and the massage was also very nice. They have a Jacuzzi and Sauna which completed everything. About a 30 minute drive from Thamel (city center) but definitely worth staying at. The rooms were spacious and the bathrooms were also nice.
Would definitely stay here again

So we were here for 6 days conference, Nepal is not new for me I have been there And I know that the people are very sweet.... We arrived at the hotel and check in was crazy fast very sweet receptionist with a welcoming drink, room was very spacious although I had the standard king, it was very clean sheets pillows bathroom overall was very clean a couple of things could be better but is okay comparing to the location after the second day the whole place was having problem with water smelling like rust and brownish but it's not their fault and the engineer came 2 am to try and help and the staff couldn't stop apologising and every day checking if we r happy... Over all the stay was comfortable nice and great... The yoga class every day is nice pool is good and the golf course is gorgeous we swung a bit but we took golf cart and went through it u see monkeys deers and very nice birds and simple marvellous views... We all loved it.. The seminar was big as we have a total of around 250 overall and all liked the place and loved being there... The pickup and drop off to airport was on time and again the staff is simply great... Other than the water issue the stay was very very very worth it... It's secure clean beautiful and I indeed recommend it....

Stayed here for 3 days. Very nice place. Indoor pool, they heat it when you need it. Very accommodating staff... Best service so far in Nepal. I am staying in the Hyatt in the last 3 days and Gokarna beats Hyatt and Shangri-la in service..

If i come back to Nepal again, i know where to go.

My wife and I live in Kathmadu and have stayed at or visited most of the major hotels in the city. When the opportunity arose to take a day off for a special occasion, we headed to Gokarna Forest Resort for our first visit.

We arrived around 1:00 PM hoping to have lunch prior to checking in. We stopped at the desk and asked the location of the restaurants. We were pointed to Durbar and the Club House. We first went to Durbar and it was effectively closed. The entire restaurant was turned over to a buffet line for attendees of a conference. We then went to the Club House which was also closed and available only to participants in a golf tournament. We asked a manager what we could do for lunch and he told us "You can order from the menu, but it will take a long time". When he saw our frustration, he offered to allow us to eat from the substandard, cattle-call buffet with the golfing mob.

When we returned to check in, we explained the situation to the desk clerk and, although she apologized, there was no resolution offered as to the effective block that was placed on the property's facilities. We were cycled through a series of management types until we arrived at someone who appeared to have some authority. He upgraded our room and promised us that the restaurants would be available for dinner. He promised to reserve a table for us and assured us all would be in order. Several hours later, when we arrived for dinner, the restaurant was still effectively closed. One small area with 5 or 6 tables was operating, all full, and the bar area with knee high tables was open. Nothing else. No reserved table in the restaurant. After some minutes, the staff set up a table on the edge of the bar area so that we could eat dinner. Most of the staff had gone home, having worked the conference and golf tournament all day. Our smoked salmon appetizer took nearly 40 minutes to arrive.

The following morning was no better. Upon arrival at breakfast, one of the waiters told us "everything is closed because we have 3 conferences starting today". That sums it up. Gokarna is not a resort, it is not a hotel, it is not a place to go to relax. The pleasant restaurants shown on its website do not exist. They are not run as restaurants. They are closed. The entire facility has been turned over to serve as a conference center hosting local business events. Paying hotel guests are a tertiary activity of the facility.

If you want a nice place to stay on vacation in Kathmandu, take it from us, go somewhere else. You will not get what you want here.
