“Solace in the Mountains”
Reviewed December 26, 2012

My first visit to Katmandu and Nepal. This hotel which is tucked away among the lush green hills, away from the bustle of the city and very close to a large golf course. The rooms were very spacious with decor unique to the region. Staff were very polite and prepared to go the extra mile to accommodate our Conference party. The meals were ordered to suit one's taste even though we were at a conference. I stayed an extra day to sample a very therapeutic massage.

Only warnings -lots of monkeys about and the hotel provides staff which keep them at bay, especially if windows to bedrooms are left open and one wants to eat outside overlooking the golf course. The walk in the woods- the tracker was very conscientious about making sure the leeches in the forest did not spoil the very refreshing walk.

The superior room we had was massive, the beds were comfortable and the bathroom was quite nice. The room and bathroom had a nice brick and stone finish.

I booked to have a mud thermal wrap at the spa but reception mis-communicated I wanted a message package instead. It turned out they didn't have wraps available. But hot stone message I ended up having was absolutelt fantastic (and I'm not a huge fan of massages)!

Considering Gokarna professes to be 5 star, I thought was food was good but not fantastic. The Thai and Chinese restaurant had small servings and the food was mediocre in my opinion. The breakfast buffet was good but not comparable to other international 5 star hotels.

In saying all this, the staff were very polite and friendly, the ambience was relaxed and peaceful, and I enjoyed my stay very much.

A resort with excellent service provided friendly and polite staffs. Quite and tranquil place. Buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner are awesome. Indoor hot water swimming pool, sauna, spa etc are good. Rooms are clean and reflects antique Nepali design.

We loved our stay in Gokarna Resort. Staff is very polite and friendly, always eager to help.
Service is pretty good. A little bit of maintenance issues in rooms we stayed both times, but bearing in mind that we're in Nepal it was insignificant really.
Golf course is pretty well maintained. Golf club staff can be trained a bit better, so I wasn't satisfied with service in the Club Reception.
The only real downside of staying in Gokarna was it's location. It's pretty far away from Kathmandu and all places, takes at least 40 minutes of horrible road to go to Thamel area. So, if you plan to go out and enjoy shopping and nightlife of Kathmandu - don't stay in Gokarna as road is unbearable to use often.
If you plan to stay away from city - Gokarna is ideal place to relax!

Nothing but fond memories of our time at the Gokarna. Love the layout with the lawn area. Fantastic staff. Really loved the room - bed a little hard but that is usual in asia. We did the walk through the jungle and captured some awesome photos of local life / landscape.

A lovely peaceful hotel about half an hour from the Airport.

Very well maintained with helpful staff.
We were on full board, so took advantage of the excellent restaurant for all meals (mostly buffet). You could eat in our outside. Temperature was very pleasant until the sun went down.

Cosy log fire in bar.

After walking in the mountains we spent two nights in the Gokarna and enjoyed it's peaceful surroundings. The food was of a good standard ( amazing breakfast buffet) and the rooms large, clean and very comfortable, our room had a large double sunken bath with shower. The ever smiling staff could not be more attentive and are a credit to the hotel. The spa area was nice but the pool was freezing.Early in the morning the monkey's walk across the car park to the forest as they seem to sleep on the hotel roof but they bother no-one in fact the staff walk straight past them and both human and monkeys ignore each other.Currency can be changed at reception but they do not keep a lot of cash.We would love to visit again and next time have a guided walk in the forest
