Lived here for two months. Pretty touristic, but this is where you will find more options with regards food, accommodation, shops and english spoken people. It's full of restaurants, bars, trekking agencies and stores selling just about everything. Prices there are obviously higher than the rest of the city but still cheap compared to the rest of Asia.

Thamel is the main shopping area of Kathmandu. Its quite a happening place in terms of restaurants, shopping, tourists etc but over all quite expensive. You can purchase the same items else where at less than half the cost.

Thamel is undoubtedly the tourist heart of Kathmandu. It is almost always filled int with tourists from all over the world. Some good, traditional and highly reviewed restaurants around makes the place even more significant. There are plenty of street side shops from where you can buy things that you wanted to buy. There are adequate number of restaurants and eating places around. By the sun moves, the vibe changes from shopping to partying. Thamel could also be called as the party district of Kathmandu. There are a lot of Bars, Pubs, Dance Clubs and Cafe's along the road. The Nasha Club right at the entrance of Thamel is the only standard dance club that I would recon. A good and fun place to be.

Wish this neighbor hood had less bars, coverbands and noise at night. Its changed a lot over the last 10 years. Many coffee places...a spots to chill out in restaurants. Not as Holy as Boudha...and it has grown overpriced.

Many beautiful handmade assortment of things, though you have to carve your way through the hectic streets and avoid all the unnecessary touts and bargain over the tiniest of things!
