Rock up with nothing, leave with everything. Dont worry about booking because there are thousands of retaurants and hostels to suit all at your finger tips. This is the tourist central though so barter hard. Ask people of directions or help and they are more than happy to help. It takes time, but once you get used to Thamel you fall in love.

This is a tourist hub, frequented by bag-packers due to availability of very low cost hotels out here. WiFi is free and common, even on street shops. Electricity is less so for heater you have to pay a lot extra... Good for shopping for souvenirs.

Thamel is one big noisy area in Kathmandu. You can eat cheap, get some clothing and souvenirs. In the three months we where here, we often went to Thamel in the weekends, and every first day we where so tired off all the honking cars. But when you get use to that it is a nice place, for a few days!

If you like messy small streets and shopping, this is the place for you! Shops allover, with everything you could possibly want... and everything you never thought you'd need but suddenly can't live without. Some really nice charity shops too, supporting women equality... Worth a visit!

Don't miss the rush and hush if this square! Lots of places to go shopping (And bargain! Always start at 1/3 of the seller price ) and get a nepali Masala Tea at one of the nice cafes there are along the main road.
Soak the vibe and don't miss to buy some music, cause you won't find it in You tube (Trust me.... I've been trying... and I regret not doing so!)
