Lots of little shops with good prices after bargaining. We were there in off season, so prices probably better-too much to see, too little time.

It's a thrill to walk through this tourist area, crazy drivers, street vendors trying to sell stringed instruments and khukuri knives. You have to experience it.

Everything from Kuhkri knives to fine Yak scarfs. Singing bowls and Himalaya Honey, which comes complete with warnings for use. Visit, have fun and don't be afraid to spend a little money on the locals. How long will it be until you return?

Don't get shocked by the noise and traffic in the little town, this is a place you either love or hate it. We are one of those that love this touristy place, very resourceful place for trekking gear shopping, they are cheap but definitely can last you a few trekking trip. Before putting down your purchase, bargain! Give it try yourself to see if you like them.

Thamel is the main place for western visitors to visit. It's barmy and it's easy to get lost in, but it's safe (or appears to be) but would suggest getting a taxi if in doubt. I would suggest checking out as many of the streets and shops as you can before buying anything as prices vary hugely. One trick is to go into a shop and discover the lowest price they'll go to and then go to a street seller and start negotiating down from there. You'll usually find that you'll get it for paractically nothing compared with the original price. For instance - starting at 3,500 rupees with a street seller, often ends up at 70 rupees. . . just do it with a smile.
