“Great place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 5, 2013

We stayed in Thamel for most of our visit to Kathmandu. It is a fantastic place to base yourself for day trips. The is great shopping and an easy walk to many places. There are great restaurants and plenty of places to eat or just stop and have a drink. Lots of rooftop cafes that give a great view of Kathmandu and surrounds.

“a happening place in Kathmandu..”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 5, 2013

This is a very happening place in Kathmandu with lots of budget hotels/guesthouses, restaurants, bookstores.
There is also many shops selling souvenirs, clothing (traditional/winter/etc).
If you are into outdoor activities, well this is a place for you to shop till drop.
Lots of outdoor shops and huge amount of gears selection, but be careful of some fake goods/clothing.
This is a great place to stay if you are in Kathmandu but please ignore the annoying honking of taxi and motorcyclist.

“Cheap and cheerful”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 3, 2013

If you don't spend a lot of time outdoors and just want some equipment to last a trip or two in Nepal, this is the place to get outfitted. Don't waste your money on some western "brand name" that will never be used again. Buy key equipment at home, but anything else when you arrive in KTM at a fraction of the price

“Shopping heaven”

Excellent for buying souvenirs from Nepal, and also for warm trekking clothes and boots before trekking. Be prepared to bargain with a sense of humour.

“Touristy and overpriced beware!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 31, 2012

The place to be if you are Nepali and want to make money from the tourists! Thriving place full of outdoor clothing and equipment shops, hippie clothes shops and gift shops, has some interesting characters to behold, the home of the three wheeled tut tuts and taxi drivers shouting to tourist's taxi!
