“I'm sure there's better in Kathmandu”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 24, 2013

The hotel while not bad was also not good. It's a fairly large hotel (for Kathmandu) with about 100 rooms, however is aging and would struggle to qualify as an international 3-star standard business hotel. The hotel was very busy on the 1 night I stayed there as they had a large group checked in. The buffet breakfast the next morning was the most chaotic I have ever seen a breakfast buffet, and the food was somewhat below average.

The room was comfortable, however a few lights did not work, and the door lock did not work well. And this was in a suite since I got upgraded as they were full. Someone from my group had awful bed bug bites her whole body the next day. I had a few small red swellings on my legs as well although I'm not sure if mine were mosquito bites or bug bites.

If you want WiFi you'll have to pay, something like 400 rupees for 24 hours although you can also buy an hour's worth.

I have tried to be open-minded about hotel expectations given that this is Nepal, however I do think it's important for travelers to share candid comments with each other given that there are so many small hotels in Kathmandu and hardly any of the usual chain or recognizable international brand name hotels, making it difficult to select a hotel.

I stayed here as part of a group and package so don't know how much the hotel charged us, however I gather from the rack rates that they aren't cheap and you could definitely get much better, and much better value, elsewhere.

this hotel was like a motel 6....it was complicated using the shower as you had to turn the faucet around and around to get the water to be hot. the service was average, except the guys who watched my bags: bellboy? the thing that stood out was the beds were not very comfortable. it just seemed like quite a waste of money at around 125$ per night for such an ugly, overrated place. maybe it's just that Kathmandu is expensive for tourists...

I chose to book this on the recommendation of cleartrip, Front view of hotel is good but room’s conditions are not of standard. Smelly and not hygienic, bathroom needs a complete renovation. Hotel on a narrow road leads to frequent traffic jam and pollution beyond imagination. Poor Quality and menu of complimentary breakfast
Apart this behaviour of one staff Mr Sunil Kapali (Restaurant Manager) was so rued, that I have to make a complaint against him to General Manager.
I never go to this hotel again and not recommend to anyone.

We stayed here in May 2013 while attending a marriage. The hotel desperately needs to be renovated. There was hardly any light in the room and electricity seems to be a big problem. The bed sheets and bed covers haven't been changed in years it seems. The lift acts funny all the time. Old small CRT TV in the room needs to be changed or removed as it just occupies space. Bath fittings need to be renovated.

Uncomfortable stay. Not recommended.

We stayed three nights in Grand Hotel, Tahachal, Kathmandu. Good hotel, far from the madding crowd of the city. Staff members are friendly, excellent food and moderately priced. Overall experience was satisfactory. Surely this Hotel requires recommendation.

Building and furniture are old. Food is expensive. My tour guide is also shock by the price. Lift is small and slow. You need some time to figure out which button is up. This is the funniest design I have ever seen. Room is ok with CRT TV. No hot water or coffee maker. You can't take water from tap for drink, not even after you boil it. There is some chemical inside water which smell irritating after boiling. So you have to request for mineral water. You have to pay RS500 for wifi.

I stayed 3 hotels in Nepal during my visit. Grand hotel is the worst. I will surely choose another hotel for my next visit.

We stayed here for three nights in November 2012.We were two couples with our three children.Check in was quick at our first visit, and rooms were okay. Not grand but beds were comfortable(we asked for extra bed which was nice) and bathroom was okay, though leaking from the basin.Restaurant was decent and a la cart food was tasty and service was not bad.Breakfast was good with regular hot and cold menus. But surrounding area was not very good.Hotel is inside a narrow lane.Nepal roads are horrible and traffic jam and pollution beyond imagination.Stayed here for 2 nights and then proceeded for Chitwan and Pokhara by road for next 4 nights.Last night we were supposed to spend at this hotel again,This time reception was bad, confused and rude.We failed to understand why extra bed could not be arranged when we had already paid for the same. However, they arranged for it.This time room was smaller and many electrical points were nonfunctional. However,we faced our worst nightmare in the morning when all taps went dry for 3 hours. It was truly horrible experience as I was sitting in the loo and flush did not work.Just cannot imagine. Will never go back, never.

Room Tip: Upper floor rooms are better.
