We spent four nights in February 2012 at Grand Hotel. The hotel sits on a very busy side street just a block away from Soaltree Crowne Plaza. With its 8 floors, It makes much of it's being the tallest structure (some time ago) in the Valley. There are three mom-and-pop convenience stores in front and beside it so if you're looking for inexpensive wine or bottled water, it really is convenient. But that's about it. They have only two hotel vehicles - a large coaster to carry 15 or so to a site, and a very small - and old - van that probably seats 2 plus plus luggage. The lobby is sufficient for meeting guests and guides. Breakfast is poor, for a tourist used to his toast and sausages and hams and bacons. The strong impression you get is that there aren't enough staff for the number of guests. One example - a guest had thrown up near the elevator. No one cleaned up the mess until two hours later - they only put up a "be careful" sign. All our companions complained that the central heater-ac system didn't seem to work - it was cold despite putting up the heater to 30. Hot water was reliable. The rooms were decently-sized but the beds were on the hard side and lumpy. Towels were thin and threadbare. It's a workable hotel - if you have to do business close by. But I'd avoid otherwise.
