9 rooms is a community of people that i am proud to say i was a part of for a brief period.
great house.
hot water. communal kitchen.
if your travelling in nepal it doesnt get better than this, unless you want to stay at a stuffy hotel for rich people.
this is more like a hostel, but you get your own room.

9Rooms is a very special place. I came to Kathmandu totally on my own and within days I had my own 9Rooms family. The space is beautifully decorated and warm, and the communal kitchen makes for a great space to hang out and get to know the other guests. 9Rooms brings in an eclectic crowd of people that are both artistic and want to make a positive impact on the world. What is great about 9Rooms is that the people there tend to stay for longer periods of time so it is more of a community feel, as opposed to a hostel where people are moving in and out before you can even learn their name. 9Rooms is effortless and comfortable, and makes it easy to feel at home. The kitchen has all of the cooking supplies you need and there are fruit and veggie stands minutes away walking. Each room at 9Rooms is different, and has its own flare and personality. Most of the decorations are made by local artists too! The roof, which they just built awesome bamboo furniture on, is a great place to drink some wine and hang out at night. Location-wise, it feels quiet and serene, an escape from the chaotic vibe of the city, but with the benefit of being very close (5-10 mins walk) to Jawalakhel, a central area to pick up buses or to go out for dinner. Everyone who stays at 9Rooms doesn't want to leave! It really was a huge part of what made my time in Kathmandu so awesome.

9rooms is a home away from home, whether you're here for a week or a few months. It's clean and artistically decorated place where guests from around the world share food and stories. It's a peaceful place where you can get work done and relax. The awesome 9rooms managers take care of Nepali necessities like pumping water when the power is on, ordering drinking water, changing gas tanks so you can have hot showers and cooking stove and making sure the internet is up and running. The 9rooms roommates are an instant community of inspiring and fun folks. I haven't seen and can't imagine a more creative/communal/accommodated guesthouse setup in Kathmandu!

9 Rooms is not your ordinary guesthoust or hotel. It was merely a place where you can rent a fully furnished room for a minimum duration of 1 week and that is the beauty of it.

I've stayed here last winter and throughout the recent summer/monsoon. Most of the occupants are staying at 9 Rooms for a long term, I'm talking about months. From there, you will get tips (from the point of view of another visitor to the country) and new friends (if you're nice enough to others).

Who needs room service or in house cafe/restaurant when you can buy food from nearby market and cook it yourself? Who needs fitness centre or swimming pool when you can walk around the city and immerse in their culture?

I may be bias because I am not a fan of fancy hotel (unless it is free) but please check out 9 Rooms on their website. You know the place is going to look great if the have a great website too! I've met few occupants in the past who complained about internet not being fast enough (they were comparing it to what they had back in their developed country) but if you are here to experience new things, not to waste your time watching cat videos on Youtube, and if you plan to do that, I feel sorry for you.

To sum it up, this place is not for everyone. If you're not into talking with people living with you, or if you're not into having to take a bus/cab to Thamel, or if you're not into cooking and cleaning your own dishes, this is not for you. But if you're like me, wanting to live with a close knit community of travellers, cooking with others and sharing meals, going out at night and knowing you have enough people to share a cab back home, then 9 Rooms is for you. It offers you a place to make friends and even Crowne Plaza, Shangri La or Hyatt can't do that.
