We stayed at Eco Hotel Kathmandu before and after our honeymoon trek, and it was wonderful. Great, super vivacious location in the centre of Thamel, everything you need is in walking distance. The hotel itself has hot, well pressured showers and Western toilets (of course, but we really came to appreciate this after our trek) and big, comfortable beds. Breakfast was very nice too.

Hotel manager Raj was particularly wonderful, he picked us up from the airport and helped us to arrange a private car to our trek starting point (the actual negotiating was done independently of him, but with a bit of haggling you will get a good price, and a good, reliable driver), and was full of very handy tips for us to make our travel smooth. We left all our big suitcases with the hotel during our trek, free of charge, and everything was very safe - we left all our phones, laptops etc and all was exactly as we left it when we came back. The people who work there were all so helpful, genuinely wanting us to enjoy our Nepal experience, and we were told, if anything were to happen to us on the trek, we could call the hotel and they would arrange what they could for us from their end. Really really great.

Enjoy Nepal!! It's amazing!!!

Stayed here before and after a trek in Nepal. The staff are fabulous... friendly and very helpful, arranging taxis/cars for the day, and making sure you are happy. Rooms are clean and spacious (some extremely so). The downside for me was that all the rooms lead off a central atrium and so it can be rather echoey and noise carries. The location is right in the heart of Thamel which is ideal, and there is a lovely roof terrace for watching the sunsets... all in all, it was a happy stay.

After spending a considerable time at the Eco Hotel, we got to know all the wonderful staff personally. They can't do enough to help and will do their utmost to rectify any problems you may encounter. Unfortunately I was ill (nothing to do with the hotel) - and the hotel chef cooked whatever I wanted each day whilst I was recovering. I had to take a couple of trips to a clinic and the hotel staff accompanied me to assist. The hotel is in a great location and can arrange any trips you might wish to do. They collected us from the airport on arrival and also arranged a car to take us back to the airport for out return journey. The hotel does have a generator to cope with the daily power cuts (it is one of the few that does in the area and even if other hotels tell you they do - THEY DON'T). Rooms are both clean and comfortable and altogether you couldn't choose a better hotel in the Thamel area.

We stayed for two nights after our trip to Tibet. The location is outstanding. Many restaurants nearby. You need to turn down a side street and you will find coffee shops, bakeries, bars. All excellent. The hotel restaurant is also good. The hot breakfast changes each day. The first day the hot buffet featured fried eggs and sausage the second day omelets and ham. Each day there were potatoes and vegetables plus fruit. The staff recommended hiring a driver for the day for $75 without a guide. We visited the three most important places. The hotel itself is very clean with a western bathroom with a tub. Good hot water. parquet floors in the rooms. Good Wi-Fi. A/C that works. We will return to Kathmandu and would not consider another hotel. One word of caution there is no lift. As is the case with most hotels. Our room was on the fourth floor. This hotel has five floors. So you may want to request a room on a low floor.

Room Tip: Request a low floor if you cannot walk the stairs.

This hotel and the people that run it are so professional, friendly, generous and accommodating. They genuinely want your stay in Nepal to be as easy and smooth as possible. They go well beyond the call of duty to make this happen. The rooms are clean and well presented, the roof top balcony is a lovely touch and the new meditation room looks beautiful! There is a restaurant attached for breakfast and any other meal which serves wonderful food. Basically I came as a customer and feel that after 7 nights I left as a friend.
