The Hotel Shambaling is a real paradise. There you will feel very comfortable und just amazing. You can relax and calm down after a hectic day in Kathmandu. The rooms are big and clean. In every floor there is a different style, which makes the hotel very homey. There is as well the Shambaling Restaurant, which offers you excellent food and if the weather is good, you can eat your tasteful food in the garden. The garden is unforgettable, its so quiet, even its in the middle of Kathmandu (noisy city). If you like culture, the hotel shambaling is perfect placed, its only 5-10minute walk from the famous Stupa. Why would i choose The Hotel Shambaling again? Because the Staff and the Owner make it to the best Hotel in Kathmandu. They are very friendly and lovely. They made us feel like at home. Thanky you so much for the lovely stay, i will always remeber the hotel Shambaling, see you soonn.

My family and I have had the opportunity to travel to many beautiful places and have stayed In numerous hotels but this idyllic hotel is by far our favourite. The Shambaling hotel is situated away from the noise and pollution of Kathmandu city and Is located at a walking distance from the Buddha stupa. The facilities are fantastic and the rooms are decorated beautifully. But what makes this hotel is the people. From the lovely ladies at the front desk to the young gentlemen at the restaurant, everyone was always ready to help and were genuinely beautiful people. I would like to specially mention two people: Mr Binod and Ms Tenzing. These lovely people were always smiling and generous in their assistance and really did seem to genuinely love their job. We will not forget their immense help. Our stay at Kathmandu was wonderful and we would like to thank the entire staff at the Shambaling hotel for making it so. Madusha R.

The Shambaling Hotel is like an oasis in Kathmandu where you can find rest and peace. It is located in walking distance from the Boudha Stupa. The rooms are big and comfortable, decorated modestly, but with much style and very clean.
The meals of the restaurant are excellent and can be eaten in the lovely garden.
Above all I must mention the very helpful and friendly staff. It was always a pleasure to come "home" and have a little chat or to get useful advice.

Pros: Very clean. Functioning and fast Wifi (not always the case in the rest of Nepal even when it is advertised). Consistent hot water. Decent AC. Exceptionally helpful and lovely staff who made us feel very welcome. Very close to the Stupa - only a 5-10 minute walk.

Cons: The road to get there was pretty rutted and muddy courtesy of the monsoon rains, but we were told that the government is meant to be sealing the roads within the next year. The location is actually pretty convenient, but it can be a little difficult to find and is not that well known by taxi drivers. Also charge $15 (plus 10% Service charge and 13% tax) for an airport transfer, when taxi's (admittedly smaller and less comfortable car) cost less than a third of that.

Overall: Welcome respite from the craziness of Kathmandu. Will definitely be returning when we come back to Nepal.

Room Tip: Garden Side.

Thank you so much for your wonderful review. We are always trying to make each and every guests stay special and we are happy that you experienced the hospitality of our staff. Yes, the road to Shambaling at the moment is bad as the government is in the process of laying the pipes as well as expanding the roads. We have been informed that the road will be black topped in the years time. Keeping our fingers crossed.

On behalf of the entire Shambaling team, i would like to thank you staying with us and we all look forward to having you at the Shambaling in the near future

Best wishes,

Shambaling Hotel is an incredible find, in the midst of the crowded, frenetic, craze that is Kathmandu. We were lucky enough to find it on a chance search for hotels located close to the airport, and I am so glad we did. From the minute we stepped out of the airport at Kathmandu, everything was arranged perfectly for us. From the airport pick-up in pouring rain to the caring 24-hour staff at the front office (we arrived well past midnight), they had thought of everything. We spent one night here, and travelled on to Bhaktapur the next day. After a few days wandering, we returned to Kathmandu and though we had booked into another hotel (closer to Thamel), our experience was totally unsatisfactory there. I rang Shambaling back and asked if we could stay with them again, and Tenzin (front office manager) went out of her way to make our stay as comfortable as possible. They upgraded us to a superior room for the same price, organized a packed breakfast for us as we had an early morning flight, and treated us like family. The rooms are generous and the beds are some of the comfiest in Nepal. The facilities are excellent: hot water, A/C, wi-fi and a lovely garden view. The Boudhanath Stupa is just a five minute walk from the hotel, and thoughtful touches of Tibet shine quietly throughout the hotel. Shambaling Hotel felt like coming home, and I've decided to make it our base in Kathmandu whenever we visit. Give them a try the next time you're there -- trust me, you won't want to leave.

I cannot speak highly enough of the Shambaling hotel. The simple elegance of the rooms, the impeccable, courteous and consummately attentive staff and the excellent food of the hotel's restaurant made my visit a genuine pleasure. Considering the surrounding chaos of Kathmandu, this hotel is a breath of fresh air. I stayed for two separate nights between which I was hiking in the mountains, and the quiet and peaceful luxury of the Shambaling hotel was a genuine pleasure. Both evenings, I spent exploring the Boudha as it is an easy walk from the hotel and ate my dinners at the hotel. The price was very reasonable, and due to fact that I had arrived during the low season, they upgraded me for free. When I return to Kathmandu, I will absolutely come back to the Shambaling hotel.

Room Tip: I had a garden room on the second floor and did not see any of the other rooms.

I stayed here in July 2013 with my two (adult) children. We spent one night before going trekking and then one night at the end of our 8-day trek. Staff were very helpful and the rooms were comfortable. Constant hot showers and air-conditioning - we stayed in the garden view room which was very quiet. I had booked one room with he t"monastery" view, but they explained that there was a 24-hour festival going on at the monastery so it would be noisy, which I really appreciated. We ate at the restaurant in the evening and had delcious momos. The breakfast was very good - a very big menu - and service was quick. The trek was very tough - with no showers and very little comfort - so coming back to the Shambaling kept us all going at times. I would definitely stay here again if I return to Kathmandu.

Room Tip: The Garden View rooms werer very quiet!
