Good:

*) Well-experienced stuff
*) 24-hours restaurant
*) Price is not high

Not good:

*) Hotel looks like very old, rooms are very basic and in very poor condition
*) There is no wi-fi or LAN in the rooms. They have free wi-fi in lobby, but spotted.
*) No gym, no sauna, no spa, no massage
*) They doesn't have generator of enough power, so very often lift is not working. If you are living on the 5-6-7 floor...

Room Tip: I think, that the best room there - 701 (on the last floor)

I stayed in the TGH several years back when visiting Nepal as a tourist. Working here running a small charity, I now recommend the place to volunteers who come for when they first arrive in Nepal. It offers an excellent first impression to Kathmandu, which can otherwise be somewhat disorientating and a culture shock. A peaceful oasis in the humdrum and noise of Thamel, the Tibet Guest House is located in the bottom end of Thamel. Here it's a lot quieter than further up where there seems to be a competition most nights as to who can make the most noise! It's also ideally placed for transport, whether it's the tourist bus for Pokhara and Chitwan (5 minutes walk away on Kantipath) or Old Bus Park for buses east to Jiri (15 minutes walk). You're also close enough to walk easily to Durbar Square and not so far from Swayambunath, two of Kathmandu's five World Heritage Sites.

Offering great and friendly service, the rooms are good value and its great location makes this a very nice way for the volunteers to start and finish their trip (they usually go to work in remote areas).

Efficient and friendly, staff give everyone a warm welcome and are charming. Free wi-fi is another definite plus, also with computers with free internet downstairs in the reception area. The rooms are comfortable and clean, and the little garden at the side is a great place for breakfast or afternoon tea. You get some of the best views over central Kathmandu from the rooftop too.

A favourite, where people come back time and time again, this place is ideal whether you're here on 'business' (volunteering) or as a tourist. Certainly feedback from all the volunteers who have stayed here has been without exception very positive and most come back and stay longer when they finish their volunteering.

I used to stay in Tibet Guest House for many years. It has its own atmosphere with all these colorful flags in the wind and Tibetan wall paintings in the restaurant and garden. The staff is really nice and friendly and the restaurant runs 24 hours with a short night menu. There is a wifi in the restaurant (not very fast though) and no internet in the rooms. The hotel definitely needs a good deal of refurbishment and cleaning. The carpets are old and dirty, the bed covers and towels are grey, and the woodwork seemed old and fading. But still, the hotel has all you need for a budget stay in Kathmandu and has a competitive price.

We were really satisfied with the Tibet Guest House. It was reasonably priced and the staff were helpful and friendly. We were also impressed with its cleanliness and the location was perfect. I would definitely recommend it to budget-conscious travelers after a nice place to stay.

This place is very convenient to everything in Thamel. Kathmandu is still very dusty and not sure why nothing is done about it. It will make all the residents there sick. The hotel itself was adequate but I agree with some of the other reviews that the rooms could be cleaner and serviced properly. The food wias fine but the internet was very inadquate for the amount of guest they have and it didn't work properly had to go to an internet cafe to get proper service. Everything else was fine, great location and great staff as all the people in Nepal seem to be nice.

Room Tip: Don't get a room at the front have a back one they are quieter. Corner rooms are brighter but n...

Unfortunately though the hotel has a nice ambience and nice enough staff (we were given a warm farewell by the owner's daughter), the room I stayed in was not nice at all! So if you're given a room at the topmost floor refuse it. It was cold and not done up in the same style as the rest of the floors..we felt cut off and didn't feel safe in the room that had to be accessed from the rooftop! Apart from this we had no complaints about the location and food.
