Nirvana Garden Hotel
Ranked #113 of 210 Hotels in Kathmandu
Reviewed May 27, 2013

I stayed at the Nirvana Garden last year at the start and end of a trip to climb and ski two high Himalayan peaks in the Annapurna area. This was my first time to Nepal, but from what I could tell this is the place to stay in Kathmandu. My partners on this trip have been to Nepal 11 times and choose to stay here so that says a lot. As we went around the city they were pointing out all the other places they had stayed at.
Clean room, reliable internet (when the power was on), nice central location and a good restaurant and breakfast made the Nirvana Garden a perfect place to start and end the trip. The garden is a nice oasis in the middle of Thamel. Stop looking for your Kathmandu hotel, you found it. For your trek contact Mountain Tribes Nepal, tell Babu hi for me!

Room Tip: garden view rooms with balcony have less noise

The rooms are dreary and not the best maintained, but staff is friendly and the water is hot. Food can be missed. Don't bother with the buffet breakfast- it is a waste of time!better to enjoy a cup of tea in the morning and head pm the street to the penguin for food. Overall, a god choice for a central hotel wi a bit of character. Staff are efficient and basically friendly if not cheerful.

Room Tip: Make sure to choose a room where the sun isn't beating in on you... I stayed in. 211 and it was...

We stayed in Nirvana garden for 8 nights by the end of April and first week of May. We had one double room and one triple( a double with extra bed). We all enjoyed our stay in Nirvana for the spacious rooms, kind and helpful staff and beauuutiful garden. The location is also good. It's in the heart of Thamel in Jyatrapati but located at the end of a lane which is more quiet and when you enter the garden you can't believe the bust streets of Thamel are just a few meter away. The reception desk was really helpfull and they responsed to all we needed, except the airport transportation which the van belongs to the hotel is very old and we missed the drop transport due to the fact that it was already booked by other customers. The open buffet breakfast was not a very special thing and the restaurant of the hotel was expensive with low value. We preferred to dine outside . Overally, we really had great memory of our stay and I will be back to Nirvana the next time I visit Kathmandu

Room Tip: If you are more than two passengers ask for the roof top room. Because they normally don't have...

We stayed with my family over here in double bed room. The stay was good as we spend most of our day out sightseeing. The hotel has good location to its advantage, the rooms are small and old and carpet needs serious cleaning, the furniture is old and just there without much use. The bathrooms are old but good supply of hot water.
The only part which put us off were noticing roaches in room and in passage. These were taken care off and we were watchful after that.
The food is great in the restaurant and local dishes are tasty.
The staff is definitely a plus and deserves credit for their helpfulness.
The beddings were not as expected but manageable..
Overall recommended.

this hotel is not very cheap but in principle fine. it lies in Thamel the tourist district of Kathmandu. We had a room with own balcony in the extra building, which was nothing special but in general fine.
the breakfast was not included but actually for the price we had to pay not really recommendable. it was really nothing special and relatively expensive.
the hotel lies at the southern end of Thamel, but as Thamel is not really big this is not a problem.
the staff was also very friendly

Dear carl81,
Thank you for reviewing our hotel.
Our objective is to give our guests the best value for their money & this is one point that one should consider. We do not know what you had for your breakfasts but during the busy Spring & Autumn season, a good spread of buffet breakfast is laid out every day comprising of juice, cereals, breads, yogurt, fruits, pancake, potatoes, beans. ham, sausages, eggs, tea, coffee, milk. We think, all this at US$5 per person is a good value.
Best regards,
The Management

Finding a reasonably priced/ conveniently situated and peaceful hotel in this part of Kathmandu is not easy. The Nirvana Garden fits the bill. Rooms are comfortable in a vaguely shabby way. Hot water is plentiful. Staff are pleasant and helpful including the domestic contingent. The gardens are lovely in a rather lost and neglected kind of way! No problems at all...restaurant is good with good breakfast buffet choice. An excellent hotel and a real haven away from the frenzy of Thamel. As soon as I have booked my next trip to Nepal I shall be booking a room at the Nirvana Garden.

Room Tip: I along with my friends was very happy with our rooms in the building which is separate from the re...

I would recommend Nirvana Garden unreservedly, as a peaceful and nurturing place to stay in the middle of Thamel. The staff are all welcoming, kind and helpful; the ambience is pleasant in a slightly rundown kind of way - but then, much of Kathmandu (even the so-called top-notch hotels) is like this and you get used to this aspect of the teeming city. It is a great place for a single person to stay and unwind. The rooms are pleasant: I had a room with a balcony looking down on the garden/courtyard, and felt very comfortable. Despite the ubiquitous load-sharing, there was always hot water to be had and at least 1 light in the room when dark. The buffet breakfasts were varied and tasty. The service from the restaurant staff was always courteous and non-intrusive. Free access to the internet, when power was available....and the reception staff always knew when the power would be off each day. From 6pm their generator would kick in anyway........Overall I would say I felt very welcomed in this place!

Room Tip: I would say, choose a room with a balcony and outlook on to the garden/courtyard, Also, choose a roo...
