“an excellent option”

I would recommend Nirvana Garden unreservedly, as a peaceful and nurturing place to stay in the middle of Thamel. The staff are all welcoming, kind and helpful; the ambience is pleasant in a slightly rundown kind of way - but then, much of Kathmandu (even the so-called top-notch hotels) is like this and you get used to this aspect of the teeming city. It is a great place for a single person to stay and unwind. The rooms are pleasant: I had a room with a balcony looking down on the garden/courtyard, and felt very comfortable. Despite the ubiquitous load-sharing, there was always hot water to be had and at least 1 light in the room when dark. The buffet breakfasts were varied and tasty. The service from the restaurant staff was always courteous and non-intrusive. Free access to the internet, when power was available....and the reception staff always knew when the power would be off each day. From 6pm their generator would kick in anyway........Overall I would say I felt very welcomed in this place!

Room Tip: I would say, choose a room with a balcony and outlook on to the garden/courtyard, Also, choose a roo...

A lovely decent hotel offering piece and quiet in the middle of crazy Thamel. Helpful staff, decent free wifi. Stayed there before and after trekking and I couldn't have wished for a better accommodation. And let's not forget the decent and hot showers.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking their gardens.

Spent almost two weeks at this hotel and would highly recommend it. It is not a 5 star hotel, but for the very reasonable price it is excellent, and most important, it's true - they do have hot water all the time. In fact, we had to add cold water because the hot water was too hot sometimes. The hotel generator kicks in whenever there is a scheduled electricity brown-out. Wifi is usually OK, but there were times when the signal was a bit weak. They do have computers in the lobby available for guest use. Yes, the rooms are a bit worn (although the bed linens and towels are clean and fresh) and sometimes you need to flush the toilet twice, but the quiet location and the garden just a step away from the noise of Thamel more than makes up for that. Plus, I don't think you could find a more helpful front desk - especially BJ, who really went out of his way to help us get airplanes tickets to Pokhara just before one of the dreaded two day strikes. He really is a gem. Our room did not come with breakfast, but the breakfast menu was well priced and the curd with museli and fruit was delicious. We are coming back to Kathmandu next year and we will be booking at the Nirvana Garden again.

Room Tip: The hot water in the new building is better (although the hot water in the older building is also go...

I just spent a couple of night in Nirvana Garden again, I can highly recommend this hotel in the center of Thamel. The location is ideal for the ones who want to visit Thamel and the sights around Katmandu, the garden is a small oasis of peace in the middle of the hussle and bussle of Katmandu. I would recommend the rooms in the new building. I was so well received again during my last visit, all my thanks to Jagu who gave me exceptional service.

Room Tip: Try to get in a room in the new building, they are more modern and up to date, and they are facing t...

Nirvana Garden has many of the pros and cons of nearby hotels: no elevator, barely warm water, slow wifi limited to the lobby, but reasonable prices. however, it stand out thanks to:

a classy decoration, if a bit outdated
larger rooms (I compared with the nearby hotels)
and most importantly, a location a bit away from the road, which is priceless in Kathmandu. almost no noise from engines!

it is also close to durbar square while still being in Thamel if you don't have much time. Taxis will have no trouble going there if you tell them it is next to tibet guest house.

Room Tip: pick the best rooms, the difference is very small, and there are only 3 rooms in the last floor (pea...

Hotel "Nirvana Garden" is an axcellent, just perfect ! If you are tired of office-looking and soul-free hotels, " Nirvana" is just the right place. Absolutely professional and friendly staff, kind and warm atmosphere will make your stay a super-plasant. Decoration of the lobby, library, floors and rooms are not simple : hand-made wooden decoration and furniture, paintings, table lamps, carpets. Hotel located in a very good area - easy to find - close to Thamel, and not right in the street, but in a quiet place, with two beautiful gardens. I am travelling a lot around the world, and I can say : definitely - raiting is 5 !

Room Tip: All rooms are nice.

This hotel is conveniently located close to Thamel, the touristic area of Kathmandu. It offers rooms at budget rates. The rooms are simple but clean. It provides free WiFi. The hotel surroundings are pretty quiet. And there is a garden where one can enjoy a complete and pleasant breakfast. The hotel also arranges for free transfer from/to airport. The staff is pleasant. It is very good value for the price, I definitively recommend it.
