Poor value for the money. We spent 3 nights there paying 50 USD per night. Got a pretty large room, but with terrible bathroom: the ceramic of the bathtub was broken in several points, the water was dropping out, and the curtain of the shower was extremely dirty. Also, our bed sheets were full of yellow and even blood stains, and towels sometimes greyish and torn. This is not what you expect to get for 50 USD in Kathmandu! You can find a better room for as little as 20 USD. Also the breakfast was a basic, very low quality buffet, we only did it once. Staff was kind and the hotel has nice common spaces and wireless. Location is also good, but all together doesn't pay off for the money spent.

This is a good choice, it is in the heart of the tourist district, thamel, yet in a peaceful small road. Rooms are spacious and well kept and the garden is super for relaxing after sightseeing. Recommend the restaurant for good and good priced meals.

Room Tip: Rooms facing garden are nicer

Stayed here in April and May: first four nights while working in Kathmandu and then one night after coming back from elsewhere.
And it really did feel great coming back each afternoon after spending hours interviewing people in the grit and grime of the city (buy a facemask).
Rooms are spacious and clean with a balcony, the garden's quiet and comes with a decent restaurant.
Think it was the staff who left the biggest impression: friendly and happy to fill me in on any bizarre aspect of Nepalese life or politics I happened to ask about while waiting in the lobby.
Ok, it has no backup against the power cuts (I think that explains the slow service from the kitchen someone else mentioned) and the bathroom was a bit battered in places, but then if that's a big issue to you, you should be paying $100+ a night and staying in somewhere like the Soaltee Crown Plaza.
I paid $30 a night plus taxes for my first night. I realised I could have probably threatened to leave the second day and talked them down (it was off season), but I have learnt from experience that when you find a place this good you should stick with it and give them what you can afford.
Would quite happily be there now (he types, from his room opposite a building site)

I stayed here two nights while on a g adventure tour in Nepal. the rooms were nice spacious but quite dark. The nepolise use a lot of wood. The bathroom was good apart from the shower not being hot the first day and also the shower curtain at the bottom was filthy!
There is also not that much power in Nepal so you have to seize the opportunity when it's on.
Overall I didn't love it but it was okay and actually the restaurant was nice but slow service.

Our family and friends have been staying at the Nirvana Garden since 2006. I also bring groups to Nepal and we all like the friendly atmosphere and lovely gardens. The staff, from porters and housekeepers to the desk staff are all helpful and always smiling. The location is good, near Thamel yet tucked away up a small lane way thus so much quieter.

Room Tip: I have stayed in many different rooms but of course the ones with balconies are the best! Rooms in b...

I feel compelled to write a review of this excellent hotel in Kathmandu after the outstanding service that I have received there on a number of occasions over the last two years.

The hotel is everything that you would expect from a good hotel anywhere in the world (clean, friendly, safe and accommodating), but more than this, the staff at the hotel, from the door man and cleaners to the reception staff go out of their way to make you feel extremely comfortable and welcomed throughout your stay. They offer free airport transfer upon arrival, will be able to answer any questions you might have as a tourist, and will don anything they can to help make your stay as easy as possible (even offering to post a letter home to save me having to go to the post office!), and as memorable as it should be.

Highly recommended.

Dont normaly write reviews but this hotel and staff deserve it.
We stayed in the Hotel before and after going Treking to Mera Peak. We had 3 guys and 2 women. We did mention on a couple of occasions that we would stay in the hotel again if we are lucky enought to return to Nepal. I dont as a rule pay much attention to hotels I stay in put Nirvana Gardens added to out experience.

Due to problems with flights in land we had to extend out stay with the hotel by two nights which was no problem. We stayed over a week at both ends of the holliday.
This Hotel is all about location and the staff.

Kathmandu is very busy and in your face. The Hotel is down a quiet little street in the middle of the hikers area / shops etc in easy reach of the important tourists bits. What makes it special is that it is different to the madness of the city, with a garden that we found ourselves enjoying sitting in and particularly when we returned from the mountains eating and eating in !
I could not say enough about the food. While we had to wait for our order at times this lent to the pace of Nepal. The food was always well worth waiting for and the value was certainly noticeable. While we did want to eat out and enjoy the local food we were happy to eat in on a number of occasions for food. It was not like eating in an hotel. I can still taste the breakfasts!
The food and location, for the price make it very accessable for normal budgets and a great memory.

The best thing about the hotel is the staff. Throughout the hotel they could not do enough and went about their business in a very relaxed way. Thanks to everyone involved.

Pat, Ireland.
