this is an ideally located property just off thamel.the rooms are well appointed with heating and hot showers.cant do anything about the power cuts as that's univeral in nepal.

service provided is good-they organize transport /tours efficiently and the exterior of the property is beautifully kept with the original architecture intact-nice garden and courtyard.

restaurant is good but rather expensive.

i would like to mention a word of thanks to the manager,Dikember who accompanied us on various outings(including an incredible helicopter journey into the Annapurna Sanctuary),kept us amused and informed with his numerous stories and anecdotes about life in general!thank you.

Room Tip: each of the rooms are differs slightly-suggest higher floors-if you dont mind the walk up.

It's hard to write a review about this place without it sounding like a complete cheesefest, but it really is amazing. I booked KTH as it was great value for money, but did not expect it to be as stunning as it is. The main hotel is built in traditional Nepalese style, with intricate brick and wood work and it really feels like an oasis in the middle of the bustling area of Thamel. Despite being so central it still remains peaceful and there is even a small courtyard in the centre of the building as well as nice gardens out front.
Breakfast was fairly simple but not bad. Apart from the coffee mind - but you won't find a decent brew anywhere in Nepal!
Rooms are well equipped and even had welcome drinks on arrival. Fresh drinking water was also provided and loads of tourist information about the city.
Only downside was the electric blanket on the bed, which the staff turned on while we were out and about. But then I am from the north!
On the whole I can't recommend this place enough.

The hotel prides itself on authentic design and craftsmanship. It is quite impressive and very friendly. When the city had power we did, and when not....well, not. The walk from the hotel into the busy streets was an experience of sights, sounds and smells. Every moment was sensually new making the hotel a needed and wonderful respite.

Stayed here for 3 nights last week. Located in thamel but a bit of a walk away from the main thamel street, about a ten minute walk. This time of year Kathmandu is really cold in the evenings! The hotel had heaters and electric blankets and hot water bottles in the beds for when there were power cuts. Every time I got into bed it was so nice! The hotel looks really nice and old fashioned and the rooms don't have tv but u wouldn't want to stay in the hotel and watch Nepali tv anyway when there are loads of things to do in Kathmandu!
It's a nice hotel and I would stay there again.

If you are looking for a beautiful Hotel with very polite staff and lovely rooms which take you away from the hussle of Kathmandu and you don't mind paying similar prices to Western Hotels - then this place is perfect. We booked this Hotel for when we returned from our trek; thinking that we would like a little more comfort and fuss after roughing it. It was very nice. However we felt that reserved and quiet nature of the staff and the other guests seemed a little uninteresting after our exciting trekk and the other guest houses we stayed in Kathmandu; I suppose we got used to lots of travellor talk and staff interaction. We felt this was lacking at the Temple. But if you are not looking for this - Kantipur will suit you and you will not be disapointed. Warning - the shower takes between 5 - 10 minutes to warm up in Winter - a bit of a waste of water. And as other reviews have said - the rooms are very dark - which means you use a lot of lights to see anything. Eco friendly doesn't seem to be working in these two cases.

What a wonderful surprise! After an extremely dusty and harrowing ride from the airport!

Hotel is within a walled enclave, enhance through a small wooden door with wooden shutter, really quaint.

When you enter, you come into a courtyard with a majestic exterior of the hotel!!! looking at the details, I am amazed.

The interior was equally impressive. The restaurant serves freshly prepared organic food. It take awhile so it would be good if you pre order and get them to call you once the food is ready. Quality of food is good and portioning is not to bed either. Price would be approx USD 8 per person but we dine Asian style ie sharing few dishes with rice & we don't do dessert and coffee or alcohol.

This place is an oasis of calm.

Before we came, all correspondence with the manager, Digamber was very prompt too, which was a relive.

Location, it is pretty much in the heart of thamel. 5 min walk to the main road. Personally, I am not a shopper but if you like shopping, this is the place to be.

Room, we got the triple room. On request, Digamber very kindly put us on the 1st floor so that my mum doesn't have to climb too many staircase. Note, there is no lift here. The room is pretty large. Has 24 hours hot water despite electricity rationing in Kathmandu. At night, hot water bottles are provided together with electric blanket which is heavenly for these few tropical Asians!

Toilet is large and everything is clean. Room doesn't have a TV but everywhere in the property, you get really good wifi connection so there is enough entertainment for us with the internet.

The bed is a little soft for me but no sleepless night though. There us no major entertainment with loud music at night so its really quiet here for restful nights.

Most of the staff are really friendly. The owner is around everyday and approached us frequently. Really friendly and nice.

I requested for hairdryer which was promptly delivered, hot drinking water was also prompt. It is hard to find any fault with this place.

I travelled with my parents who are over 65 & my daughter who is 11. Everyone was happy.

If you are on budget, this maybe a little expensive but it is really worth it.

I recently returned from a wonderful visit to Kathmandu. One of my favorite experiences was staying at Kantipur Temple House. This hotel is eco friendly (no plastic bags, water conservation, solar power backup lighting). The hotel grounds are really pretty and I enjoyed sitting outside having tea. My Nepalese friends were delighted with the hotels' decor and the close location to the Thamel shopping area. The staff was always so helpful (use of the Internet, money exchange, shopping advice) and they made sure I had heat on those chilly nights.
