We stayed at the Hotel Tibet as part of our trekking trip to Mt. Everest Base Camp. The hotel was a garden oasis away from the noise and traffic of downtown Kathmandu. The owner and all of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We were treated like we were welcome and honored guests in a private home. Upon our departure we were honored with Kata shawls - a nice cultural touch. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The rooftop garden patio and the garden patio off the lobby were wonderful places to sit and relax at the end of the day. The restaurant food was delicious and reasonably priced. I highly recommend The Hotel Tibet as being an excellent value for any visitor to Kathmandu. I would definitely return again and again.

I have to stay in Hotels quite a lot due to the nature of my work and I have to say that in terms of value for money the Hotel Tibet is up there with the best. Okay, so if you want 5* then stay at the Hyatt, but if you want clean, safe accomodation with business facilities (like WI-FI in the lobby, fax and phone etc) and some really nice staff then this is the place to stay. I think the reason that I was so pleased with this place is that I paid less than half the rack rate, which made it uber-good-value! If you pay the rack rate then it's over priced but I'm guessing that most of you are coming here as part of a pre-arranged tour. If not, email the hotel direct and bargain a good price!

The communal areas in Hotel Tibet are very nicely decorated in traditional Tibetan style. The rooms were fine, but slightly tatty in places. Also, the hotel is located close to some sort of live-music bar, so expect considerable noise in some rooms until late at night. The hotel owner is normally around the hotel and is extremely friendly and helpful. We also found the travel advisor (who we think is also a member of the owning family) to be very helpful and obliging.

The only drawback we found to our stay were the hidden costs. We were quoted a price by Hotel Tibet in USD. However, when we came to pay, we were told that their credit card machine would only accept NRS, and were offered a horrendous exchange rate from USD to NRS, and on top of that you will be charged a credid card fee. Plus expect tax and service charge to be added to absolutely everything, including internet access (but don't expect to be told this when quoted the price for an hour on the internet). An hour on the internet at Hotel Tibet costs over 4 times as much as a street internet cafe, and we found the internet connection to be terrible - expect to spend well over 3 hours on line for 1 hour of useful access.

If you stay at Hotel Tibet, don't use their internet, make sure you pay in cash USD if at all possible, and be prepared to be hit with extra costs on check-out.

Superb, bespoke hotel. We loved the ambience, the staff and the closeness to Thamel. We didn't get to Thamel till late (10 mins walk) as we spent a lot of time in the jewellery shops outside the hotel!
From the doorman to the waiters, the staff were wonderful. Our rooms were clean and well appointed and had a balcony for taking tea!
The entrance hall was beautifully decorated in Tibetan style - we had driven in from Tibet and after ten days of egg rice or buff, the food was also excellent.
If you are going to Kat. don't miss it!

We spent four nights at the Yak and Yeti before traveling to Tibet, when we returned we stayed at Hotel Tibet and it was wonderful. The bathrooms were much nicer than Yak and Yeti, the tv (i know it sounds terrrible) offered much more in terms of english channels, and the hotel and lobby is beautiful. They have a nice patio area for drinks and food (which was great) and also a rooftop terrace. Most importantly, the staff was friendly and attentive. The only negatives - the towels were a bit worn and tattered, and the dining staff offered friendly but slow service.

While wandering through the tumult and stress that is Thamel I came across this little hotel... botique by nepalese standards. The rooms are simple and clean. The breakfasts are filling and the staff is terrific. A find methinks...

We were in Kathmandu during the recent demonstrations and curfews and the The Hotel Tibet was a beautiful oasis of calm - clean, efficient , nice decor and a real friendly welcome - only a family business could deliver this service. I thoroughly recommend this hotel to all. Nigel Feetham. Nottingham UK
