I stayed here for 4-5 days last November. Overall it was a pleasant stay and the staff were outstanding - they were attentive and extremely helpful. The breakfast was also good and filling - they offered us eggs cooked to order (omelette/scrambled/sunny side up, etc), croissant, pastries, grilled tomatoes, etc. I thoroughly enjoyed the meals.

The hotel is also located right in Thamel so you are a short stroll away from shops and restaurants. I understand that Thamel is a touristy area but sometimes convenience and the 'typical' tourist experience that is all that I am looking for :)

When I was there they were in the middle of refurbishing the rooms starting from the lower floors. The only unpleasant experience we had was NOT due to the hotel but rather Nepal's nationwide power cuts. My mother took the lift to our room upstairs and the power cut happened while she has halfway up (the emergency phone in the lift did not work during the power cut). Fortunately my sister and I elected not to take the lift and we managed to alert the reception, who immediately dispatched a technician to pry open the lift doors and evacuate my mother.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that has been recently refurbished

We planned to stay in Thamel for 4 days, so we wanted to find a clean and confortable hotel.
We chose a guesthouse for the first night which was far away from our expectation, so we checked out the next morning and began to search for another hotel.
We checked for 7 or 8 hotels in Thamel by walk-in, and finally we chose Manang because of its reasonable price, newly renovated room and very nice general manager.
By comparing 8 hotels in Thamel, Manang is the best at its price level and it's even better than some other more expensive hotel.

Room Tip: room 502 is good:)

In stayed at the Manang Hotel 3 times this last month while I was in Nepal trekking. The hotel is very well located and everyone on the staff was warm, friendly and helpful. The owners are often present and making sure that their guests are well taken care of. They are in the process of upgrading and redecorating the rooms so if you get a redecorated room, it is wonderful. The other rooms are ordinary and in need of upgrading but quite sufficient and very clean. The food is good and dining is in a very pleasant outside courtyard where you can get a great latte from their coffee shop. With power load sharing, the electricity is off during the day (as it is in most hotels) which means you have to climb the steps - good training if you're planning mountain a trek. Overall, a very and welcoming enjoyable experience with a personal touch from the friendly owners.

Room Tip: Ask for room 105

Manang is slowly getting a bit older but is still welmaintained. I have stayed there several times.
The rooms are OK but not very special.Last time we had also some problems with the hot water supply but maybee this was caused by the rainy weather.
Because of regular powercuts you have to climb a lot of stairs if you have a room in the upper floors. Tha rooms at the front/street-side of the hotel are noisy in the night and morning so try to get a room in the back.
104 is just above the exhaust -pipe of the generator and this generator is working every day for several hours. So be carefull about the rooms.
I would advise you the second and third floor at the backside or inside of the hotel.
Food is good but a bit overpriced for Thamel. Coffee and beer also.
Breakfast is bufet and good.

We stayed in this Hotel for two nights in April 2013 . Its location is good as Thamel tourist area starts from this end . Its walking to all type of shops , bars , clubs and other many type of restaurants ..
There is big problem of electricity in Nepal and due to this Hotel Manang do not operate the Lift by which it is difficult to go on 3rd or 4th floor and they have their best rooms on these floors only and Hotel also not operate Air conditioners in day time . Rooms are good , Toilets and shower is nice . Service to room is quite good and all staff is very polite to the guests . But prices of food and snacks are quite high in this Hotel always calculate with heavy taxes . Complimentry breakfast is very nice . This Hotel have good sitting area outside which is very much comfortable and you can drink , smoke and enjoy food when tired and need a relax after coming back to the Hotel . You can get Taxi easily just come out from the Hotel and do not need to enter in the Tahmel busy road to go anywhere in Kathmandu .
One good casino Venus is only on 5 minutes walking distance . There are many casinos in Kathmandu but if you wants to enjoy real hospitality than go to Anna, , go by taxi from Manang and taxi will charge around Rs.150 only .When coming back from Casino , just ask casino staff to arrange to send you back to Hotel by their own arrangement . Solty Casino is far and also not having good hospitality ,

Room Tip: If you can go to 3rd or 4th floor by stairs than choose rooms on these floors as these are well reno...

My wife and I stayed in this hotel for one night right after arriving from Holland. The reception was well staffed and our room on the second floor was dated but clean and well set-up. The hotel is on the edge of Thamel which makes it possible to stroll right down the busy streets of the tourist area. Lots of restaurants and shops. The restaurant of the hotel had a very decent menu with local and continental options. The service was friendly and swift. For a one night stay a good hotel, but for longer I would look for something with a bit more atmosphere.
