My husband and I stayed here as it was the joining hotel for our trek with G Adventures. We checked in a few days early and were given a smaller room than we paid for with twin beds, when we explained the situation they promptly moved us to a bigger, better room at the front of the property. The firt one had no balcony but better views over the city, so either would be fine. Just make sure you get what you pay for.

When we arrived around midnight they opened up the kitchen and cooked us dinner and gave us some beer which was a nice touch. The room was clean and they provided all of the amenities you'd expect in a hotel of this price. The restaurant is great but the breakfast's aren't the best as they serve western food (which in my experience is never good in a developing country - the local breakfast's are better). There is a guard at night time and a guard dog as well. It is on the outskirt of Thamel so the street is quiet late at night.

Overall we were happy with the service and standard. However, when we left a day early and gave the appropriate notice the staff demanded money and wouldn't let us leave. It was only $30 but based on principle I refused to pay. What annoyed us the most was that another trekker from our tour had already paid for a room and the hotel staff said there was not one available and tried to put her (a solo traveller) in a dingy hotel down a dark alley. We had to get our trekking guide involved and eventually they gave her our room and we didn't pay based on us writing a positive review online.

In short, ensure you get what you pay for and don't pay until you arrive. Otherwise, you should have a pleasant stay.

We stayed here in November 2011.

Spent two nights in Hotel Manang. Notably is the hotel's good services and friendly staff. Room size is pretty good by Kathmandu standard. My 2-beds room was quite basic and clean but is quite old. The bathroom was in a run down condition with cracks and leaking faucets. Water was brownish as well. Location is right at the centre of Thamel that has a lot of shops and restaurants but on a quiet street. Not a good value for money comsidering the many other hotel options in Thamel but acceptable.

During our last trip to Nepal in third week of September, we stayed at Hotel Manang for 3 nights with my family. we took two rooms. It was a wonderful trip, we went to Pokhara and came back again after 2 days and stayed at the same place. We choose This Hotel becouse of location, it is on the edge of Thamel but very quite and peace for soud sleep. Rooms are now new reovated with bathroom, free WiFi, mini bar facility and the good thing is 24 hours room service in room.
Morning breakfast is buffet system and excellent, it is in open garden restaurant with continued tea and coffee. Free internet in lobby, If you are non-veg, tandoori chicken and nan is delicious among the Thamel.
Hotel is absolutely service oriented. Staffs were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. this is the mail positive aspect of the Hotel Manang.

Room Tip: Upper floors like third to fifth are suggestive, quite, sound sleep and sunny.

Stayed here for 2 nights in a 2-beds room layout with a group of 02 couples.. It is an average 3 star hotel with basic amenities. Reception area was spacious and welcoming. However, the welcome drink was too overly sweet for my liking. Rooms were clean and comfortable but window view was blocked by a brick wall of the neighboring building still undergoing construction. There was a reasonable spread of dishes for breakfast, especially the cook-to-order eggs/omelettes were great. Food ordered via room service was good. A few downsides were the frequent power disruptions, the cleanliness of the tap water (was yellowish!) and the turnaround time of the room towels. In toilet frequent accumulation of water & toilets are so small & foul smeel spreads inside the room.

Room Tip: 1. Before booking the room first have a look in the toilet cleanliness. 2. For vegetarian there is...

My family was booked there (three rooms) in the first week of September for three nights. The reception looked ok, but we were allocated rooms on the Second Floor. The rooms were sooo old and lousy, practically falling to bits and uninhabitable (nobody of us dared use bath/shower)! We complained about the rooms, and were given another three rooms on the third and fifth floors - what a difference having decent refurbished rooms!!! However, that was not all, as, due to the refurbishing process taking place, the noise of cutting and fixing tiles did not stop. Another complaint, and they stopped after around 30 minutes!!! Not such a pleasant way to start your stay in a hotel!!
The new rooms were ok, clean, modern, with AC, minibar etc. Food was served in a covered courtyard adjacent to the hotel, within the premises. Food was nothing to write home about.
The hotel is located in Thamel, and was thus surrounded by shops.
Another typical attitude of the hotel's customer service attitude is that I was charged for some items missing from the minibar. I complained about it to the Manager, and their 'cool' reply was that, once the chit was issued, then it could not be reversed, so it had to be paid. However, he was prepared to give me a free bottle of water to compensate (which had obviously cost mush more to pay than if bought from across the road). They just didn't seem to care about it all!!
All in all, if the refurbishing program is ended and all rooms would be up to standard with no works going on, and with an improvement in customer care towards its residents, it would be recommended. Otherwise, with my experience, I would not recommend.

Hotel Manang will be remembered by us only for the service quality and the special arrangements for us during our stay .
It is an average 3 star hotel.
The rooms we got were not luxurious at all. Moreover, the construction going in he hotel made it really noisy and uncomfortable for the guests.
Food was good.
Located in the heart of the city.
The market is just few footsteps away from the hotel.

The management ans staff should be appreciated for their co-operation, service and customer follow-up.

Our entire trip in Nepal was arranged through the hotel manang and they did a fairly good job.

Room Tip: Go for the newly constructed rooms which are away from the road side .
