Hotel Excelsior is just located at the hubs of Thamel just walking distance from Thamel Chowk. The rooms are quite well furnished and very clean. everyday they change the bed sheet and bed cover. the rooms are very reasonable to your pocket. the staffs are well trained and at your service when ever they are called. Over all our friends enjoyed very much during our stayed at the hotel.

I've been staying at Hotel Excelsior in Nepal since 1994. I visit Nepal on business at least once or twice a year and this hotel is my home from home! The owners Kunsang & Jigme became firm friends and go out of their way to accommodate whatever strange requests I may have. I can highly recommend the hotel food especially the momo's, parkaras and tingmo's. The coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice is also excellent! The pink marble floors and beautiful green plants inside the hotel and on the roof garden creates an oasis within the chaos of Kathmandu! The hotel staff is friendly and always willing to help with anything! I will not dream of staying in any other place when visiting Kathmandu!

Over the past 10 years, we along with many friends have returned yearly, (sometimes more) to the excellent services of the Excelsior Hotel. From the moment we are picked up at the airport in the hotel's bus until the staff gather at the front to say goodbye we are made to feel special by the friendly, efficient staff and management. Centrally located in Thamel, the hotel has clean, ensuite rooms, while the recently refurbished dining room and revamped menu offer a variety of meals in pleasant surroundings. If you want to escape, the beautiful rooftop garden is just the place to pass those quiet moments. While trekking or travelling the security of extra luggage in storage, but more importantly of travel documents and valuables in an individual security box, allows one to travel knowing it is all safe. We trust you enjoy your stay as much as we have over the years.

I have been staying in Hotel Excelsior for the last many years for my business, photography work and leisure. The hotel is at the heart of Thamel, tucked away behind the Pumpernickel Bakery. I have recommended the hotel to many of my friends over the years and they have appreciated it. The hotel staff are extremely helpful and trustworthy and the service is wonderful. It is always comforting to know that I have a good place to stay when I go to Kathmandu.

We like this hotel so much, that we have come back every year. The family who runs it is extremely friendly and helpful with whatever needs the guests have. They have helped us locally in and around Kathmandu for arrangements of trips, trekks and flights to Chitwan, Annapurna and Mustang. Whereever we went the places and people they had recommended have been friendly and reliable. Besides the places we have visited, the hotel can help to arrange trips to all over Nepal and to Tibet.

The rooms are very clean, not fancy but tastefully arranged and, and depending on the need of the traveler everything is avalable from bigger suits to decent rooms and, in a seperate building, simple rooms for the lower budjet need of the younger generation. The roomservice has been always friendly and helpful.

The restaurent is recently being enlarged and the food is delicious with a big variety of Tibetan, Indian and continental dishes. And, a very important plus for the health of the guests: The hotel runs its own water purifying system and the water is very safe! I never got diarhia again since I stay and eat in this hotel.

The location is very central. Thamel is the main tourist area and anything can be reached on foot. There, in the middle of town, the hotel has a most beautiful roof top garden, full of flowers. Coming back from the croweded and noisy life of modern Kathmandu we ate and drank or just relaxed with a beautiful view all over Kathmandu up to the stupa of Swayambunath and the hills around the valley.

A great hotel in the heart of Thamel. All the bars and restaurants are walking distance, and so is the shopping. The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean, large and comfy. We wanted to book a mountain flight and the staff not only booked the tickets, but also picked us up and dropped us off at the airport. One day we decided to walk to the Monkey Temple. After we got the directions, we asked about food on the way. They made us a packed lunch which we took with us and had a picnic! Ask, and you shall receive!!

We stayed at the Hotel Excelsior via a 'recommendation' from another guest house. It wouldn't really be my first choice but rather than trawl the streets looking for something better, we decided to stay.

The hotel is located centrally in Thamel which is a bonus, walking distance to all the bars, restaurants and shops. The hotel itself is pretty tired and outdated. It looked like it hadn't been refurbished since it opened and the lobby was dark and uninviting. However, the staff were friendly, giving us a wan smile and knew in their hearts that the hotel wasn't the best.

We were shown to our room (classed as a 'double deluxe room') which was at the end of a clean and tidy corridor. The room was basic, it had no frills and lavish furnishings which is what one would expect in an old hotel, but it was not worth the money we paid (I managed to negotiate it from USD60 plus tax to USD50 including tax).

The air con unit was on its last legs and made a noisy whirring sound like it was about to take off, the curtains were threadbare, the bathroom falling apart (see pic of glass shelf) and the wood actually peeling off the back of the cupboard. We did have a balcony though - bonus!

In the middle of the night we were awoken with shouting in the street and cats fighting - oh well, we were having to get up early for the mountain flight anyway.

The saving grace for this hotel is the nice staff (the man on reception sent up some drinks for us, which was a thoughtful gesture) and clean sheets!
