Definitely my favourite temple to have visited! There was so much going on, and so much to explore. Very much worth a visit

“Fascinating...”
Reviewed July 25, 2013

Traveling is about getting up every day and seeing something you have never seen before.....Pashupatinath Temple and Bagmati River cremations is certainly in that category! I was surprised that it did not make me squeamish at all. It just seemed so natural, as if it happens everyday...which, of course, it does. It was just sooo interesting! Of course there are monkeys and cows and the Sadhu holy men are wonderful photography subjects, even if you do have to pay them. It was absolutely something I would not have wanted to miss, one of my Kathmandu highlights. We did have our own guide with us, which helps make it that much more interesting, besides the fact that you have someone to answer your questions!

“Understanding the Culture”
Reviewed July 25, 2013

We paid the $10 entrance fee and gained a wealth of knowledge as our tour guide (who met us there) explained what we were seeing and answered our many questions about the culture and religion we were seeing in practice. We're not allowed inside the Temple, but there's so much more than just a temple there. If you have an attitude of respect and are there to see the architecture and to better understand the people you are living among while in Kathmandu, this is a necessary spot to more fully comprehend the practices of the people. I would also especially recommend this place to those who practice a religion other than Hinduism. Many conversations will arise from what your group sees and experiences there and it will give you a heart for the people.

“Temple of the dead”
Reviewed July 21, 2013

A very holy place and therefor Europeans are not really needed there. Coming from an other country you have to pay 1000 rupies (pretty much) and then you are not allowed to enter the inner temple if you are not hindu.
