3 cremations were in progress whilst I was there. Whilst sad, it was an amazing experience to witness. The fact that the ashes are swept into the river I found a bit odd coming from the west, but I wonder what happens if the river dries up. I loved this attraction and could have stayed for hours more. This temple is what they say the most holy one among Hindus. As a tourist, I was however deeply touched by their cremation ritual. Dead bodies are burnt by the side of river. Monkeys roam everywhere, like many of the temples in Nepal. Every sight around this place is vibrant - worth visiting there.

It is a bit bizarre to find yourself looking at someone's cremation. There were many biers and the air was thick with the burning. Holy men a-plenty willing to have their photos taken for a price. Definitely not a 'fun' spot but an insight into an aspect of Hindi life.

Dont need a guide, just walk around and enjoy the environment.
The place is so beautiful and simply awesome to wonder and ponder around such wonderful architecture.

This is the place to visit if you are intrested in local culture. Go early in the morning, cross the bridge and take a seat opposite the ghats and just watch. And please do NOT go to close to funerals. Would you like if tourists showed up at your funeral and take close pictures of you lying there?
