Owner description: Also called Kumari Bahal, this fascinating palace is home to a virgin girl who is worshipped as the goddess Durga in human form. She can sometimes be glimpsed at her windows.

We were fortunate to see her within 15 minutes of waiting in the court yard. 2 hours later, we went back again for a second visit. The living goddess appeared for a brief second and left in anger suddenly. It seemed some one in the crowd has snapped a photo of her. Therefore, be warned not to take any photograph as instructed by the authorities. Enough respect must be shown to the local culture and religion.

Small house off Durbar square you can take photos of the building but not the Kumari. Went with a guide which made it better with some understanding of the place and history.

Kumari Garh where the goddess live is a very nice building built in Nepali architecture style. The history behind Kumari can checked in wikipedia, its quite interesting. We did had a chance to see her around 4 PM in the evening. Someone told us she comes out to see the people once in morning and evening. We waited from 3.45 pm, she came out around 4.05 pm just for less than a minute.

Head here to see the absolute best in Newari-style architecture and historical building. If you are around in October, try and attend the Kumari festival when the locals celebrate this Goddess of Virginity and Purity. Amazing spectacle that takes place all around her home in the Chowk.

each country has its own culture and traditions and we have to respect them.a girl selected as goddess is stationed in this house till she attains puberty.believed as GODDESS.luckily on the day of our visit it was a festival day and we got an opportunity to climb upstairs to have a darshan of KUMARI who happened to be a 7 to 8 year old cute looking girl happily eating chocolates given by a visiting 5 year old,a very different experience one must not miss
