“A square which promises a lot but delivers average”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 12, 2014

The durbar square, the name itself makes one belief that it promises views of grandeur, classical views of architecture and heritage. But sadly not much to offer as most of the buildings are crammed. with people who have very at stake to showcase the place. It is not in the tourists paradise destiation presently

“What a mixture”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 11, 2014

Agree with most reviews I read before our visit. The square is centered around the old Royal residence which despite the so called conservation and world heritage status will sadly one day end up as ruins. The "entrance" fee system is a farce but anyone would pay the 750rps to see the museum which gives you a fascinating glimpse of days gone by with Nepal royalty. The rest of the square is decaying slowly not helped by the attitude of the locals who continue to drive every manner of vehicle through the fragile area whilst giving no respect to the buildings, using them as selling areas and doss houses. Bizarrely a must visit place for us who deep down want to know some of the history of the places we have decided to visit.

“Very old, boring and a dirty place”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 10, 2014

There is nothing to see. It's a very dirty and dusty place. They charge high entrance fees. This place is a biggest waste of time, money and energy. Avoid this place and save ur money. One could visit many temples inside the patan but there is no lightning. You have to pay money from entrance till u visit boring museums.

“So So”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 10, 2014

This was a heavily visited tourist place. If you are western then they make sure they charge for entry. Locals, who are supposed to pay a reduced fee, enter without being charged.

Lots of interesting structures. Sadly, like most of Kathmandu, the sites are in a disrepair. Still, worth the time and the fee to visit.
