Owner description: Monuments, temples and wandering animals dot this bustling town square, which is also where Nepal kings are crowned.

This is the very center of Kathmandu. It is packed with historical buildings, temples, palaces and thousands of people selling everything. It is understandable why it is so busy.
You'll need a good local guide to explain you what you are looking at.
Nice art galleries around, cafes, allow 2 to 3 hours to soak the atmosphere.

What a place! Extremely bustling and very crowded, if you can get over this it has beautiful buildings steeped in history with an incredible atmosphere not to be missed. It is not somewhere to visit twice, once experienced never forgotten but not to be missed. Bargaining is expected in the many shops and is good fun if you have the nerve, unfortunately like all the shops in Kathmandu they appear to contain all the same things and not owed by locals!!!,

Certainly a must see, both to absorb the stunning architecture, the culture that the locals have up held (even though it is full of tourists). Makes for awesome photos to show friends , family and brag.

There is no doubt that there are fabulous carvings, beautiful buildings and potentially a lot of atmosphere. However, if you stand still long enough to take notice of any of it you are likely to be run over by half a dozen motorbikes, invited for several rickshaw rides, offered the services of at least 3 guides and have a pigeon mess on your head. Intellectually - fabulous, emotionally - half an hour was more than enough!
