Owner description: Monuments, temples and wandering animals dot this bustling town square, which is also where Nepal kings are crowned.

No visit to Katmandu, Nepal is complete without a visit to Durbar Square. The square has many temples and palaces which epitomises the religious and cultural life in Katmandu. See the temples for Kumari, King Malla and Kal Bhariv.

I went with a group of friends, all of us girls. I know many would suggest to go with a couple males but if you're all women you WILL be ok, I would just recommend a group of 4-5+. It's not exactly cheap to get in, I think 750 rupees? So be prepared for that. Once you buy admission there will be lots of "tour guides" who will try to show you around, some licensed, some not. Licensed tour guides usually charge 350 rupee per person, but if you go with an unlicensed guy, you can bargain down to about 100 rupee per person. We got a guy who was unlicensed (he hangs around the entrance, wearing a white t-shirt with the little princess, or Kumari, on). If you see him, please use him! He's very knowledgeable and gives a really good deal-- the tour was 45 minutes long and we saw a lot. He's great but of course we never got his name.

Make sure to see the Kumari!! She's really cool, and appears by request (your tour guide can do this for you, licensed or unlicensed... but you SHOULD have a tour guide to do it). Worth checking out.

Have fun! Durbar Square is really once-in-a-lifetime!!

busy central area with a lot of temples and also the former king's palace. Definitely going to visit the living goddess Kumari. She appears occasionally on request for a window opening. It is a young girl playing the role of living goddess obliged to perform until they bleed the first time. It's not allowed to take pictures.

dont miss this ; you dont need a guide ; worth ducking into open gateways or youll miss stuff. we got to see the living goddess for a few seconds ;l she looked bored .chill out in one of the restaurants with a roof terrace and people watch . the streets surrounding are interesting too. shame they allow traffic through.

I felt its a good place to hangout there for an hours with your friends. I am little bit disappointed with the street childrens out there who are begging with each and everyone in a different managers.
