“Nice place with temples and shops”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 19, 2013

This place is another must visit while being in KTM. One can shop around for various local items therein and spend some quality time therein.
As it is mostly an open space, one must carry hat and goggles.

“Capital of once a Hindu Kingdom”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 18, 2013

The conversion of a Hindu Kingdom to a nascent democratic nation might have changed the nation only politically but the nation is still conservative. This was evident from the rituals and tradition that still prevails there. Durbar square or Hanuman dhoke reverberates with the old world charm. The architecture is fantastic with carvings and all over the building. Even erotic sculpters can be seen on the facades of certain structures.

“Interesting sites”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 15, 2013

Overpriced for what is there. The tenfold increase in price for non-SAARC countries is offensive. Skip the 'palace', it is only an entryway and a court yard. A few interesting sculptures but if you are allocating time you won't cry if you miss this.

After strolling the streets of Thamel make your way to Durbar Square. You will see locals selling goods surrounded by culture and religious spots. Old buildings and beautiful spots will keep you interested.Take your camera!

“UNESCO World Heritage Site”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 5, 2013

Kathmandu Durbar Square ( "UNESCO World Heritage Site") also known as Hanuman Dhoka square is one of the major attractions in Kathmandu Valley. Located at the heart of ancient city in Kathmandu it is surrounding both Hindu and Buddhist temples. Most of them are built in the pagoda style embellished with intricately carved exteriors. The Durbar Square, with its old temples, palaces, epitomizes the religious and cultural life of the people in Nepal.
