“Have to go”
Reviewed April 28, 2013

The buildings and the history require a guide, so get one before you go.
Be warned to enter the Kumara the residence of the Living Goddesswill require another entry fee.
However, the rest of the Durbar is fascinatiung and worth the efforet to explore.

Stumbled onto a main square whilst wandering around the markets. Local women chanting prayers others selling the very bright flowers. Wonderful buildings

“I know you have to go, but its such a pity it's not better taken care of”
Reviewed April 25, 2013

It should be the best place to visit in Kathmandu, but its just not taken care of.

I was so disappointed to find:
- this heritage site is not being taken care of, and is falling apart
- got hassled here more then anywhere else in Nepal
- there is great stuff in the museum, but it is sooo poorly organized, you don't get the story you should from it
- it's hard to follow what's what (poorly signposted and the brochure is blah)
- the stray dogs and pigeons and trash just make it feel dirty

The temples are really very nice and are frequented by lots of locals and tourist, Must see attractions is Hanuman Dhokha palace its kept in very good condition with great meuseum inside. It gives a very Good historical view of King Birendra and his life.
