“Be prepared to pay if you are a foreigner.”
Reviewed January 16, 2013

I think it's a little steep that foreigners have to pay 750 rupees to visit this magnificant square. Still it is worth going to if you are visiting Kathmandu. There must be a back entrance somewhere to avoid the fee.

“Stunning old town area with amazing temples”
Reviewed January 13, 2013

Full of temples, Durbar Square is stunning. Although there is an entrance fee, this is a bustling part of town. The sights, colours, smells - it is all well worth seeing and we met some great people. Beware of the touristy-type shops, especially near the exits, selling the 'singing bowls' and other tourist items which can actually work out very expensive. Some of our party bought these things, and although some workmanship has clearly gone in to them, I saw far nicer things in the regular shops around Kathmandu.

“World Heritage site”
Reviewed January 12, 2013

Its like stepping back in time, a really interesting place which foreign tourists have to pay an entrance fee. I can understand why they charge, however it did stop me from revisiting on other days.
To make the most of the entrance fee remember that you cannot get in to the Museums after 16.00 and these close at 17.00 and you will be charged the same fee.
