I signed up for a tour with an American travel company that started and finished in Kathmandu. They made the hotel arrangements and picked me up from the airport. This was my first time in Nepal and i was traveling alone.
I had no idea what to expect, but found this hotel clean, friendly and accommodating. Arriving alone and in a single room, I felt very safe. It is set back off the street in it's own courtyard and a guard greets you as you come and go. The food is good if you choose to dine in and they serve a very nice breakfast buffet every morning with tables outside if the weather is nice. The hotel is conveniently located on the edge of Thamel, making it a great base to go off and explore. One word of warning- be careful of wandering the narrow crowded streets if you are tired and jet lagged. It's fun and exciting, but you need all your wits about you not to get lost or run over!

The hotel is more hyped than actually it is. The hotel projects the main building while it also has a annexe just in the neighborhood. The rooms in the main building are good/ average while in the annexe is below avarage. There is no lift in the annexue and the ambience is just like any Paharganj hotel. The room service is verrrrrrrrrry poor. AC was not working in the room and no one bothered to look into the problem.Btarooms are very small .
Charges are not as per the service.Lobby has been beautifully maintained which can easily fool you about the time ahead.
If you are a vegetarian, you will not be satisfied with the breakfast. But despite negative some positive are also there. Lucnh and dinner on order are of good quality and freshly prepared. Rates are also reasonable for Thamel area.
In total a sub average experience

Room Tip: Clarify with hotel to provide a room in the main building

April 2012, we stayed in this hotel. The first night we have had a room with no window on outside (the window was on an inside corridor and was a little bit noisy during the night.
When used a second time this hotel at the end of our trip, and then, the room was better (except the electric plugs), but no special problem.
We really enjoyed the breakfast (buffet), and we have a diner with a special BBQ for the nepalese New Year.
The staff was professional and friendly. The exchange counter close to the hotel is very useful.

Room Tip: Check if the room has window on outside !

A friendly hotel who did a good job with my trekkers group. The rooms are basic and there's a daily power cut schedule pasted on each floor due to the fuel shortage in the country. During the power cuts, the hotel runs on generator and has minimal power. Internet connection is via wireless prepaid cards which are available at the front desk.

Keep any valuables at the front desk's lockers. Since the start of the trekking season last week (starting 19th March), a lot of people move through the hotel daily. The location is ideal for access to Thamel area which has lots of restaurants, trekking gear shops and various other shops selling souvenirs, t shirts, paintings and other stuff. The money changers are all over and there's one located right at the entrance of this hotel.

Room Tip: Remember to close the windows to the courtyard as the can be some noisy people in the restaurant there. Hot water is hard to get during the power cuts, so shower quickly while you can. Don't wash clothes in the bathroom. Make all your required needs well in advance before arriving at the hotel. Each room comes with a heater fan.

Location is very good, staff is friendly and helpful. There is a small but very nice garden. Breakfast is good. Rooms are clean, but the furniture is a little bit old. Ask for discounts! You have to pay for the internet.

Room Tip: Chose the deluxe room or suite.
