Negatives: Overpriced, rude/unhelpful staff, dirty rooms (both bathroom and bed), restaurant food quality was poor, crowded/noisy, unreliable service

Positives: Good location on edge of Thamel

Me and my girlfriend recently stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and had an overall horrible experience. This hotel seems to be a favorite of large tour groups. I saw large groups of Indian pilgrims as well as Chinese tour groups pass through during the time we were there. We in fact, were staying at the hotel, as part of a trip booked through Intrepid.

We had a number of issues with the hotel. I contacted the hotel to arrange an airport transfer on arrival only to find that no one was there to pick us up. We ended up getting a taxi from the airport, which was fine, but the hotel staff was very rude, unhelpful, and unapologetic when informed.

While we did not have to pay the hotel directly as it was part of the group trip, the rooms are vastly overpriced at $40 a night. You are basically staying at a hostel quality hotel and can find similar options for $10-15 a night. I stayed at the Ambassador Garden Home on a previous trip to Kathmandu and for similar prices got an amazing value. That hotel was true luxury with a wonderful, helpful staff.

I have never written a review on trip advisor before, but felt compelled with the incredibly poor service we received along with the intolerably rude staff. The hotel basically has no incentive to improve or provide better service as they continuously get large groups of trekkers, pilgrims, and tourists who come via tour groups. This adds to the hostel feel of the place as it is noisy and crowded with basic amenities. Unfortunately you do not get any of the perks you would get at a hostel (helpful, energetic staff, etc).

I would HIGHLY recommend finding another place to stay if you are traveling independently. If you are traveling in a group, sorry. You are out of luck. Hopefully you will have a better experience then us.

The Marshyandi is an older style hotel in a great location in the heart of Thamel. Our room was large and bright with a big bathroom, very clean, nice white cotton sheets. They do have some large groups which can make it a bit noisy at night. The staff were very helpful particularly when I had an accident and needed medical tratment, they arranged transport and advice to help me. we were very happy withy the hotel overall, particularly with the great staff.

It is a horrible place; there is no proper response from the reception people.
Nepal is a worst place to visit. People are more concern in getting from us.
They don’t even treat tourist in a good manner.
No respect.

Thamel area is a costly area. They are selling things in too much cost.

The Hotel is situated in the crowded tourist hub thamel yet once you enter to your room you can relax. I would recomend this hotel for the solo and budget traveller. I dont mind returning to Marshyangdi depending upon my budget.

I stayed there before leaving for a trek, as it was recommended by REI and advised to REI by Last Frontiers travel. The rooms are very small, the bathroom are pitiful and even dangerous . because of the curve of their bathtubs. Forget enjoying breakfast when there is a large group in the hotel. Very noisy at night because of the near clubs. The rates do not reflect the poor accommodation.

The Marshyangdi Hotel is on the edge of the Thamel district in Ktm. Turn right out of the hotel to find "fun". Rooms are okay\good, food is good\healthy, wifi, helpful staff. I've stayed at this hotel periodically for 15 years as I guide for Ri Adventure Travel. Frankly I only eat breakfast here as there are many more interesting places for dinner nearby. But if you are tired, food here is fine. Lots of places to stay in Thamel, this hotel is not high priced or pretentious, it's "middle" priced. I like it for it's location and sanctuary from the hustle and noise of Thamel. I've put my guests here for years, no problems; food is healthy, nothing stolen, consistently hot water (assuming power is on in Thamel), nice staff, and a great rooftop. Guests forget or don't know about the roof, go up there, it's great for a meeting, or to drink tea or a beer and watch the Langtang Himalaya. Sunrise is good, sunsets on the roof can be Excellent. Famous Pilgrims Book store is close by, nearby there are great restaurants like The Rumdoodle, etc. Location Location Location.
