“Wonderful as ever”
Reviewed October 11, 2013

We have now stayed at The Dwarika's Hotel 4 or 5 times and it remains our favourite hotel anywhere in the world. The service is discrete and delivered with a smile, the food very good and the facilities are excellent. But it is the peace and tranquility that qualifies The Dwarika's for our top vote. Once you step through into the hotel's central courtyard you leave behind the noise and madness that is Kathmandu - you could be in another world. The scent from incense that permeates every corner of this wonderful building induces a sense of peace and well-being that stays with you throughout your stay. Rooms are large and beautifully furnished complete with hand made soaps and lotions. Dwarika's is even more magical when lit by lamps at night and the Friday night buffet and traditional Nepalese banquet are musts. I could go on and on describing the delights of this hotel but suffice it to say that this is the only hotel we ever stay at which we never want to leave.

Room Tip: All rooms share the same wonderful qualities.

From the moment we were greeted at the hotel foyer, the extreme hustle and bustle of the Kathmandu streets melted away in the quiet serenity of Dwarika's. Indeed, the Customer Relations manager explained that she had trained in hospitality in Melbourne , Australia, and so we felt right at home. The architecture and all windows, doors, fittings and furniture are absolutely authentic antique Nepali giving the hotel an exquisite and very original feel and atmosphere. The range of small restaurants throughout both in the open air courtyard and indoors are of highest order, with superb culinary quality. The service provided by the hotel staff was exceptional and nothing was too much trouble. While expensive, Dwarika's made a delightful end to what was a wonderful two weeks traveling throughout Nepal.

We did not stay here this time but if we ever return to Kathmandu we certainly will. The hotel is just breathtaking, build from materials from old houses in Nepal. The architecture is incredible. We arrived in the evening and had dinner outside to candle light and Nepalese dancers. Service we flawless as was the food. When you are in the courtyard of the hotel you feel like you have gone back in time centuries. It is so serene, it took our breath away. Also explore the bar, every inch of the hotel has something to admire or some architectural surprise.

This was my third stay in Dwarika's, and, like the other two times, it was the best hotel experience I have had in Kathmandu. The check in staff were kind enough to upgrade me to a suite because of a lack of rooms, but I have stayed in rooms on all three floors in the main wing, and it is worth noting that each of them are fantastic (my personal favorite is the ground floor 101/102, but that's just me).

The only problem with Dwarika's is that they are often ill-equipped to deal with a busy load - service is generally quite high, but it suffers when they are overstretched. For example, I had to wait a really long time for a table at the Friday night buffet, despite having a reservation, and the buffet itself was nothing to write home about. Mako, the Japanese restaurant, is fantastic and worth trying - but if you are looking for a lighter touch, try the steak sandwich at the main restaurant.

Service really shines through when the place isn't as busy - had a wonderful laid back lunch service on Sunday. In all, though, Dwarika is the best place to stay if you are ever in KTM.

Room Tip: Stay in a room that has a view of the courtyard - but watch out - the pigeons can be very noisy!

I have stayed in this unique place two times. I say place because it is not a normal hotel but a wonderful treasure of nepalese traditonal architecture where you feel as if you are almost in a paradise.

I stayed at this hotel whilst on a business trip to Kathmandu. The hotel itself is stunning, beautifully restored and maintained and a true oasis in the crazy place that Kathmandu is! The facilities at this hotel are really good, the pool is great for a dip and the rooms are really spacious. The breakfasts are fantastic and the traditional Nepalese restaurant is a must, if you are a guest of the hotel or not! The only downfall is the service of front desk which I found unfriendly. This hotel is very expensive by Kathmandu's standards and the world for that matter and it is the only area I thought let the hotel down. Unsmiling and always appearing like whatever you're there to ask them is a complete hassle. We had some confusion over our car to the airport booking and I found how they dealt with this in particular really unprofessional. In saying that the rest of the staff - housekeeping, door staff, grounds staff and the various eatery staff all were loverly.

Room Tip: Interesting place to stay to experience the hotel. Not the best location for being amongst other int...

Dwarika's Hotel in Kathmandu bears testimony to the magnificent heritage of Nepalese craftmanship. Staying at Dwarika's is, in itself, an experience that will be remembered long after the holiday is over. The hotel is a treasure chest of Nepalese furniture, artwork and pieces that have been salvaged, displaying these different and unique pieces around the hotel. One can spend hours marvelling at these magnificent works.
Coupled with the high standard of service, the obliging staff and the superior restaurants, are the perfectly appointed rooms and bathrooms.
It is located close to the airport and is away from the chaos of Thamel - a welcome reprieve after a day out!
