I have just returned from a fantastic 4 day visit to Kathmandu and opted to stay in the Dwarika hotel thanks to the great reviews on trip advisor.

The hotel is in a good location for seeing the wonders of the city and is designed in traditional Nepali style. The rooms are large, clean and boast all the comforts you would expect from a 5* hotel. The grounds of the hotel are very nice, with a lovely swimming pool, hindu/budist shrines and plenty trees and plants to offer a nice escape from the hustle and bustle outside.

The service is good and the food fantastic - I tried the 12 course Nepalese meal - V.Nice!

Only one downside was a minor hickup with my pre-arranged airport pick up, as the hotel pick up did not show and I was left to get a taxi from the airport. They made up for this however with a free airport drop off.

All in all, I would very much promote this hotel as a great place to stay.

Much in the middle of Kathmandu this 5* Hotel is more like a medieval city...
The doors open and inside is a little city comprised of Hotel wings and restaurants and open space and pool and garden and and and....all made in the same medieval look and actually using antique woods gathered when other housing is dismantled.
We had been traveling in other 5* Hotels in India and this was one of the best ! Definitely the best in Kathmandu..
Recommended and organized by our Tour agency Earthbound Expeditions.
5* Hotel and 5* to the Tour agency !!

First time in Nepal with my family and we were lucky that we booked Dwarik Hotel... loved the food, atmosphere and the well trained staff ... we felt safe and secure... the only thing that they don’t have is the kids activity which for us it didn’t matter that much since we were out all day long … but still we would love to see some kids facilities in the Hotel… but in general we had an amazing time and we would love to go back.. we highly recommend it ...

We stayed here for one night at the end of our tour and it was a great place to relax and unwind before the long trip home. A beautiful modern hotel built from 'recycled' materials, including carved windows, doors and furniture. Huge rooms; attentive staff. Excellent buffet breakfast. Quiet but conveniently located near the airport and only a 250 rupee ride from Thamel. Expensive by Nepal, but not global, standards. Pool was a bit chilly but everything else was excellent.

What a wonderful place to stay. The hotel gives a warm feeling of gracious living within 10 minutes of the airport (traffic willing) It has been tastefully developed in a traditional manner. We have stayed here on 2 occasions and particularly enjoyed the Nepalese restaurant within its complex. Reality hits you full on when ever you step outside the main entrance with its chaos and traffic.

The concept of using a hotel to preserve craftsmanship is very worthwhile and it is done very well. The buildings could be old, but in fact they are near brand new. We stayed in two visits of 4 and one night. The first two days were sheer magic. Everything worked perfectly and the setting worked its magic on us. The second two days were much less magical. The bathroom started to smell, and it seemed as if the A team had left and been replaced by Basil Fawlty's cousins. All sorts of mistakes were made, from the serious (reception losing our air tickets!) to the silly ("do you have a reservation sir") when arriving for breakfast. There were many excellent staff to counterbalance this, especially the guest relations group.
On the second visit it seemed that our feedback had been received and understood as we were upgraded without a word from either side. Back to wonderful, until.... our reservation for the famous barbecue somehow did not materialise. Same silly stuff again.
Given the tariff (US$340pn with taxes) I would expect better from the staff and cleaning crew. One can only hope Dwarika's improves to match its promise and its setting.

Room Tip: Both rooms we had were good in many ways. Upper floors are OK as they have lifts.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. It pains me that your stay with us was not up to your standard or ours which is why we took the decision to upgrade your second visit. The smell from the bathroom was an unforeseen plumbing problem which we rectified once it was brought to our attention. your flight tickets was held by our reception staff under lock and key. A great many of our guests choose to reserve a breakfast table although the reservation is not actually required. By asking our guests if they have a reservation it avoids offering a second table while leaving the reserved table unoccupied. Your reservation for the BBQ evening was a miscommunication issue however we did accommodate you without any fuss. We pride ourselves equally on the level of service we give to our guests as much as we do on the architecture of the hotel. I have passed your comments onto my Executives and can only apologize that your stay with us did not meet your expectations.

Regards

So glad we stayed at the Dwarika. It's near the airport so a great place to decompress after a long flight. More importantly, it's a wonderful oasis in a city that can be overwhelming after a day of sightseeing. The public areas are lovely and interesting yet still relaxing. Service is very attentive - but in a friendly and unobtrusive way. I had a great massage. That and a glass of wine while sitting outside we're a great end to the day.
