I stayed here for a few days before and after my Everest Basecamp Trip. The Lobby & Gardens are nice. Its in a good location- right in the heart of the Thamel District. I had breakfast and dinner in the restaurant downstairs and the food was good. Be aware of Taxi`s which park inside the Hotel gates as they tend to rip you off ( This happened me twice)- where I had agreed a price before departing the hotel and they tried to charge me more when we reached the destination. Overall an enjoyable stay and well needed rest after the Trek!

We also would like to apologize for the unpleasant experience with our Hotel vehicles that did not behave right with you, this normally does not happen, but as it has, it is a shame for our Hotel. This hotel is on a lot of land, good location if you like that part of Katmandu, but over the years it has declined in every aspect as far as a hotel goes.
The service is poor, the food also poor as is the general service in the hotel - there are better places to spend your money for accommodation in Katmandu.
I think it is a typical example of poor management and accountants taking over what should be a landmark hotel in this city. The staff are poor in their duties.
Pity as it could be so much better.

Room Tip: Look elsewhere.

It was a relatively clean and quiet hotel located in the busy Thamel neighborhood. The free internet is sporadic and slow; the paid version - surprisingly - works much better. My colleagues who ate at the restaurant said it was good; the breakfast buffets were identified every day I stayed there and a bit boring. Add real Nepali Chai would help to improve it.

Room Tip: Not many amenities, but the noodles in the room are a nice touch.

Dear Friend of KGH,
Namaste,

Kathmandu Guest House family would like to thank you for your stay with us and your comment/suggestion. We really appreciate it. :)

It is a wonderful idea about having Nepali Tea (Chiya) for our breakfast buffet. We will discuss this with our F&B implement it if possible.

Thank you again and hope to see you back at KGH soon!

This was my 2nd visit to KTM and chose Ktm guest house again, as this place makes you lively as its in Thamel the touristic place. Also this time around they added a new section there. We were put up in the new section which was really nice comfortable and up2 the mark. The service as usual here is impeccable. The staff at the front desk is always willing 2 help you out and whenever one goes always they greet you with smile & warmth. 1 drawback is wifi in the room is not free even if you stay in the most expensive room, this they should consider as you pay appx 100 USD for a night where in other hotels provide free wifi in te same rate. Still it's the best place whenever 1 visits Ktm.

Room Tip: No swimming pool here. So don't consider the rating of the pool.

Dear Friend of KGH,
Namaste,

Thank you for your stay at Kathmandu Guest House, and your lovely comment. :)

We are glad you enjoyed the new wing stay. It indeed a comfort stay in the middle of Thamel, especially most of these deluxe rooms in the new wing faces the garden, which gives an additional wonderful touch.

About the wifi, we are working towards, having it in all the rooms too, however, we do have free wifi in our public areas.

Thank you again and hope to see you soon at KGH.

Great location right in the middle of Thamel. They have a variety of rooms from cheap to fancy. We opted for cheap. You can bargain at the counter to get a lower deal on the small rooms with shared bathrooms. We got a 3 person room down from 20usd a night to 14. Other than that the facilities there aren't that amazing. Use the Spa across the street called Zen. It's amazing and slightly pricier then KGH.

I was there at Kathmandu Guest House for only one night on April. After coming back from Annapurna Base Camp trek, I reached to Kathmandu at 9pm, I was really worried about having a hotel room at that night. I went to Thamel directly, and tried some normal budgeted hotels, but I really didn't liked them at all. Then I went for KGH. The receptionists Mr Uttam and Mr Dev were really amazing, they directly wanted to know my budget, and offer some budgeted room for one night.

Room was neat and clean, with clear and washed stuffs, and I don't think I need to say anything about the privacy. Budgeted room starts from 8$ [single bed] 12$ [for double], with shared washroom. A will definitely suggest anyone to stay for at least one night.

There was a good bakery and pastry shop near the entrance gate. Next morning, I also found an amazing local traditional tea and coffee shop near the hotel.

Room Tip: If you are a trekker and loking for budgeted room, ask them the receptionists for that, they will sh...

We have been travelling to Nepal off and on and this was our second stay in Kathmandu Guest House and would rate the best among all the places we have stayed in so far, including five stars. The location is in a tourist hub but thats what we love about the place.
Since the rooms are not located near the street, they are quiet. Absolutely love sitting in the well maintained and quiet garden and evenings are nice in the open restaurant in the front. People who are sensitive to heat may have problems when electricity outages take place as the fans don't work but since the weather is usually pleasant throughout the year, we never really had much problems.

All in all this is a lovely place for people who do not expect too much more than they pay for, but we feel at home when we come to KGH each time and will be there the next time too.
