Probably just OK when travelling with a group and staying overnight. Standards are pretty low. Internet at USD12.- per day only works for one computer and is slow. Breakfast is shocking.
Aircondition in the room did not cool.
We left after one night.

Stayed in a suite on executive floor. Totally worth it. Tranquil, quiet, clean. The bar in lobby is a great place to sit for a tea or cocktail and watch the ebb and flow of travellers. We were very satisfied with our stay and the customer service as well.

The good things: comfortable rooms (provided you take executive and above, standard rooms old and poor), very good bedding, bathroom OK, impeccable wifi, quiet location with nice garden, friendly staff, 10' walking distance from Thamel, rate is acceptable
The bad things: room cleaning approximate and horribly stinking shower curtain (but when requested, housekeeper became much more effective and immediately changed curtain); unattractive restaurant and food not very good; there are only two, old worn out tables to sit in the garden, whereas it should be pretty easy to organise an outdoor cafe; swimming pool not very clean and only few, old beds to relax; ugly and very unattractive spa, with massage tables that don't have a hole for your head (so if you have a stiff neck you get out worse than when you entered); lack of proper taxi service.
Tips: ask for a room with a garden view and try to be upgraded to a room on the 4th floor, where there is a special lounge where you get breakfast, tea and

This grand old dame of a hotel is a unique place to stay in Kathmandu. It has the possibility of being a top notch hotel, but it is just average at this time. The architecture and general ambiance of the hotel (including the conference center wing) is beautiful, however the general disrepair of it all is unfortunate.

I had a nice one bedroom suite on the 5th floor. The bed was a little hard but not to bad, the power went out a couple times a day but was not a major problem (unless you were in an elevator), the wifi is slow and finicky and the tv is fuzzy but I guess that is to be expected.

The staff here are all very friendly and try to help however I think the management needs to pick its battles. It’s funny what they concentrate on as there are grounds people out in the lawn all day meticulously hand picking weeds out of the grass, yet just a couple hundred of feet beyond ,they have turned the back corner of an otherwise beautiful garden into a dump! It is filled with all sorts of trash, maybe they could put up a fence to block the sight of the dump? The rooms on the upper floors also suffer a pigeon infestation in the afternoon / evening as they come to roost on the windowsills, which is surprisingly noisy.

All in all this is a beautiful old hotel with lots of charm but someone needs to pay a little attention to it, I hope this place returns to its glory days soon!

My expectations for a hotel In Kathmandu were modest - no Aman here however this is a pleasant, acceptable standard hotel for business or as a holiday base - say a 3 star compared to Australia. The hotel is Large and consisted of three distinct architectural stages. I stayed in newer nice looking section with lovely view across the well maintained and beautifully set out garden, geese wander free and there's a duck pond and swimming pool (seperate of course!!) - there is also tennis courts and a gym. It's well set up for business with a business centre, the hotel has wifi which gets interruptions but again this is Nepal so one has to amend expectations. A number of different bars, restaurants and sitting areas.
Outrageous prices in the small hotel shop which is par for the course!

Deluxe Room was well sized compared to any hotel with desk, comfy bed, tea making facility and plenty of bottled water avaiable. the ensuite was older style but clean and has toiletries which I didn't expect. Shower over bath so may have to check if you need a walk in shower. Most important it was quiet.

Breakfast selection impressive, service helpful and with a smile and most people speak English. Helpful in getting taxis for you and negotiating the rate with driver. Pick up at airport efficient and prompt.

close to the souvenir shops - just a five minute walk and i recomend a quiet sit with drink and a book in the quiet sunny garden with six white geese wandering around for company! I would return without hesitation next time in Kathmandu.

Room Tip: Choose a room overlooking the garden in the newer section.

Impressive entrance with a lovely garden setting. There are few security checkpoints, which provide us with a sense of security during our stay here. However, the management do need to pay finer attention to its room amenities, such as leaking tap, burnt socket not being replaced, wobbly chair, cracked sink basin, stained carpet and musty smelling curtains. (We had stayed in 3 different rooms during our four nights stay in this hotel).
We would however, like to highly commend on the superb customer service of the security guards, conceirge dept, restaurant staff, and in particular, a front desk staff called Mr. Bedant.
There are varities for the breakfast spread. You can either have continental or local choices and food is mostly reasonably tasty.
Wifi is not free, and the rate is like 900 rupee/24 hr. More worthwhile to get a prepaid card from Ncell which is less than 10 mins walk from the hotel.
The money exchange located at the shops just outside the hotel offers fairly good rates.

Room Tip: Rooms on the new wing have better amenities. Ask for room with a garden view.

New rooms great; old rooms frankly not acceptable. Good breakfast and nice garden. Ok gym. Quiet location about ten mins walk from Thamel. Has seen better days. Wifi very expensive. Better value options around.
