The staff helped our group of Habitat for Humanity volunteers from Canada and were very courteous, professional, accommodating. Heating system doesn't work in most (all) rooms. Location is central to restaurants, attractions downtown.

Room Tip: Ask for a heater in the winter

Stayed here for 3 nights in 2 different rooms. First room was very old and second room in a much better condition. Seems like rooms on higher levels have been more recently renovated.

Good location in the centre of Thamel and walking distance to all shops.

Friendly staff

thamel's the tourist / traveller centre of kathmandu, and there's lots of little hotels and guest houses here. vaishali would be one of the best hotels in the area. the rooms are clean, service is better than most. power (like most of kathmandu) has brownouts and internet access get's choppy. but the location's great, it's walking distance to all the cafes, restaurants, bars, clubs. to Durbar Sq if you want to ..

don't expect 5 stars (if you want a 5 star hotel, stay at the Hyatt). but if you're after the best hotel in the Thamel Area, this would be in the top handful. by international standards, it would be a 3 to 3 1/2 star hotel.

I found the Vaishali to be fantastically located but I suppose the downside of this are the nightclubs next door that go until 2am for Wednesday-Sunday nights… so loud I felt like the nightclub was actually IN my room, even my iPod couldn't drown it out. The rooms were also REALLY tired (not a lot of money or effort needed to be spent to make them reasonable, maintenance had just been done so badly, sometimes regrouting and repairs made the rooms look even worse); and out of the 4 showers I had during my stay, none were hot (only lukewarm).
The breakfast was pretty average too compared to some other hotels in the area, but the A La Carte menu was pretty good.
Staff were OK, the head honchos at reception were generally not very friendly but everyone else was warm and kind.

This hotel really needs a big facelift. The rooms are in terrible condition. The location is great and this could be the best hotel in Thamel if they wanted. Now it is by far the worst hotel I have ever stayed, anywhere.

First of all, the rooms are in the worst shape imaginable. Floors made of plastic (they say they are brand new), electric sockets don't work (I had 5 in my room and only one of them delivered electricity). Internet does not reach all the rooms properly although it is quite expensive. The shower room looks as if it was 50 years old and what worst, I had freaking 2 inch tall mushrooms growing out of the room corners!! Please see the photo!
How is this even possible!?

Second thing, the breakfast. I ended up eating it outside as the breakfast is absolutely useless. Congratulations on also making the worst coffee anywhere! The kitchen staff is helpless. Good omelets though but that's all I could find to eat.

They say it is a 4-star hotel. I would rate it just barely one if even that. The worst hotel I have ever stayed in anywhere. That is a big shame as with this location they could be one of the best in Thamel. Manager, please get a grip!

The staff is very friendly but obviously, the management is absolutely useless. I can only advice to stay away from this so called hotel.

This is a good hotel in a quiet area of Thamel, Kathmandu. The rooms are large and in better condition than most hotels in the area. The staff is amazing and what sets this hotel apart from all the others. I was always greeted with a enthusiastic "namaste" from the guard at the gate and then another "namaste" from the doorman. I worked with Sanju to arrange rooms for an incoming group and she was wonderful to work with and always had a giant smile on her face.

Room Tip: Standing in front of the hotel facing the entrance the rooms on the left get more sun. This is good...

In the center of Thamel, good approach, safe. Staff friendly at the service all the time, bar opened most of the time, rooms spacious. Book in advance to get good price or you have to overpay the room! Very good small shops around the Hotel!

Room Tip: Book in advance
