“It's relative”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 25, 2013

The Hyatt is indisputably the most luxurious hotel in Kathmandu which is why I've rated it 4 out of 5, but this is a relative score. In most other cities, it would rate at least a rung lower.

The rooms are large, very well equipped and - with the exception of the carpets - well maintained. The large bathroom has both a bathtub and a shower - quite a luxury and the toiletries are of high quality. My room had a lovely view of the lawn and the Boudha stupa with the gentle rain and occasional mist providing a sense of tranquility in an otherwise chaotic and dirty city. The Conference facilities are first-rate and unbeatable in Kathmandu

On the negative side: first, the Hyatt is pretty far away from most of the tourist sites and the city centre. It's not the distance but the hopeless traffic and the Kathmandu "roads" which makes venturing out a tedious proposition. The second negative was the service of the bell desk. I struggled with a suitcase, a backpack and the obligatory duty-free shopping from a tiny car while the bell-hop looked around, smiling and very pleased with his looks. Helping unload the baggage was not part of his KRA, it would appear. Taxis engaged by the bell-desk charge twice as much because, according to my taxi driver, they have to pay a 50% commission to the hotel staff.

The third negative was the breakfast food. Opting for an Indian breakfast, I found the "luchi" (fried bread) completely undercooked and inedible, while another guest at my table found the "idlis" (steamed rice cakes) rock hard- they're supposed to be light and fluffy. It's strange to find bad Indian food in the Indian sub-continent.

Still and all, the Hyatt remains the best of Kathmandu's hotels. But that's not saying very much.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback post your stay with us. I hope that you had a pleasant return journey. Your invaluable feedback is important to ensure that we continually deliver the ultimate experience Hyatt is renowned for and exceed your expectations for future visits.
I am disappointed to learn of the unfortunate experience you had to encounter with the concierge associates. It definitely is of concern and we have reviewed our processes to ensure that this is not repeated again. As for the condition of the roads in the valley , just to update you there has been a drive by the government to widen the roads to better facilitate for vehicular movement and we anticipate this to be finished soon.
I have noted your overall experience and feedback regarding your culinary experience with us. Please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused in this respect. This is certainly not the level of service we are known for and can fully understand your disappointment concerning the same. Thank you once again for sharing your feedback on tripadvisor and thereby giving us the opportunity to enhance our service quality. I do hope that this incident will not deter you from visiting Hyatt Regency Kathmandu in the future and you will allow us the opportunity to restore your confidence in the ultimate hospitality Hyatt is renowned for.

Best regards,

We arrive june 14 midnight, we were exhausted for the long flight, but instead of giving us hotel info, he insisted for the credit card...we were there for a conference and credit details from our company had been given and reservation had been confirmed...but we have to give it again.
We stayed for 7 nights, and went to Pokhara and left our luggage in hyatt, s storage. When we ca came back before flying home, I asked if we can take a shower in the hotel... but the male receptionist in that evening june 23 refused. When my colleague asked again to the lady receptionist, it was an instant yes to use the hotel, s spa for showering before our long flight...

Break fast did not change the whole time we stayed, but the waiters are great.

The Hyatt is an oasis from the chaos of Kathmandu. The structure is beautiful, with landscaped grounds, a large 25 meter pool, good gym, very good breakfast, and decent WiFi at a high price. Once in your room, you can forget you are in Nepal, which is in contrast to the beautiful hotel Dwarika's, which retains it's essential Nepal-ness. The TV in my standard room was an old cathode ray tube set, not a flat screen as in most expensive hotels. Rooms have a mini-bar, water heater, and a variety of teas. Bathrooms are large and clean.
Come here if you want a reliable, luxurious Nepal experience and don't want to step out of your comfort zone. It lacks some character after you exit the serene lobby. The Boudhanath Stupa is a 5 minute walk away from the secret back gate of the hotel. It will give you a spiritual lift that the packets of Nescafe in your room can't provide.

Great Hotel in an open airy location ,nice grounds and beautiful view. The Lobby area is huge and very nice architecture here.
Rooms on the ground floor ( we stayed in 356) are good in size with a huge bathroom .The bathroom fixtures are need of repair. A word about AC it has been mentioned here before the cooling is a bit of issue.
Breakfast is nice spread with plenty for everyones taste and the Cafe has a nice ambience.
The pool is huge with a nice jacuzzi near it but be warned there are no lifeguards ( they have a notice put up to this effect ).
In case you happen to ask for an extra bed ( it will take ages to get one) be warned do not try and sit on the foot end or get of fit that way . A serious design flaw in beds both my kids nearly escaped injury ,I recommend the Hotel management try to get off it when it is placed beside the bed. Also the Housekeeping is lethargic ,they did not bother cleaning the floors even once in our stay or is it because this floor is kind of reserved for Indians only.
As mentioned there is no free wifi ..... all road side restaurants in Pokhara have free wifi come on you can do it Hyatt.
Casino Tara is great .Kids had a great time.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for the review post your stay with us. Thank you for your words of appreciation about the property.

Please accept my sincerest apologies for the inconvenience you had to encounter due to extra bed and the service rendered by our housekeeping . We have taken this up with the concerned departments to ensure that corrective training is strongly enforced. Furthermore, we have also noted your inputs on the internet facilities at the hotel. It is currently an outsourced service but we do hope we can work towards your needs. However we do offer complimentary internet facilities in our Regency Club and Suite rooms.

We do hope you visit again soon and give us another opportunity to serve you and your family.

Upon arrival we got a free upgrade to a Club Suite room which was on two levels and very large.
Checking in and out was all done in the privacy of the club lounge so there was no queuing.

This is a truly remarkable hotel which is set back from the rest of the crowd - and you really will have no reason to leave the safety and comfort of this hotel. Despite the regular electricity blackouts in Kathmandu this hotel was unfazed. The staff are polite well trained and nothing was too much trouble. Pity its stuck in grotty corrupt Kathmandu! We have become fans of this hotel chain ever since! We were also given a complementary ride back to the airport when it was time to leave. It all made for a perfect stay - highly recommended.

Stayed for 6 nights. Staff is friendly and service minded. The expensive wifi is slow. Rooms spaciuos and bed good. Gym is fine and so is pool area. However there is nowhere to hang your wet stuff in the bathroom once you've used these facilities ..
Key cards are used to access your wing/room and this is at times not optimal since they do not always work or the card you took from the slot in your room proved to belong to another guest (housekeeping having mixed things up) or after having changed rooms in the middle of the night due to noisy neighbours the card might be cancelled. I have experienced all of these, yes ..

During the week breakfast and service in the breakfast area are excellent. Come Saturday they are not. The breakfast area turns into a noisy school canteen full of Nepalese families enjoying their day off. There is not enough staff to cater for everyone's needs and the place turns into a mess with food on the floor, tables full of dirty dishes, no coffee or tea provided unless you actively engage and manage to catch the attention of the staff and the breakfast amenities such as cereals, juices etc not being replenished.

As I mentioned I had to change rooms due to disturbances from neighbouring guests. This was handled promptly by the staff. There was even a follow up at the first occasion which was positive.

The great advantage with Hyatt is the location. Use the backdoor (manned by guards until 10 pm) to sneak out to the clearly marked pedestrian path to the Buddha stupa. Enjoy your meals there (lots of restaurants to choose from) and the scenery. Hyatt feels safe and the surroundings too for single female travelers.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for the feedback post your stay with us and really appreciate your positive feedback about our associates, rooms and the gymnasium. I want to personally apologize for the service issues you had to encounter during your stay and we shall definitely look to improve on your suggestions.

As a hotel we do consider safety and personal well bring thus the key cards to access individual floors. As an individual female traveler I do hope these initiative will be well received by guests like yourself. Furthermore with our location being close to Boudhanath Stupa, one of the UNESCO heritage sites in Kathmandu, we do feel we have a lot of offer to guests in terms of offering our services with accessibility to the local culture “just down the road”.

Thank you once again for your inputs and we shall definitely look to implement your suggestions where possible.
